Carnegie Mellon University Figure Skating Club 07.11.2020

Every August, my coach Sharon Brooks plans a wonderful show to raise money for the Ronald McDonald Charity House. Although this year has looked a little different as the audience watched solely through a screen, the reason why I participate remainsI skate for the sake of passion, the support I can give and receive, and to contribute to a great cause. Moreover, It is simply another way in which skating has taught me to be flexible, adaptive, and open to finding creative solutions. -Sarah Shaheen, Co-President of CMU FSC

Some days, you confidently handle all challenges on your path. Other days, you’re laying on solid ice staring at the ceiling. Both are equally necessaryas students of life and the ice, we know the bad days make the good that much more enjoyable! Tomorrow is another chance to show up as your best self

Things we miss a little extra lately: Listening to our special playlists on the way to competitions Yelling ROLL TARTS! Teaching each other dances (sometimes a little too last minute) Sporting marching Tartan apparel (yes, we will wear our plaid leggings and yes we are proud)... Winter Olympics/Championships watch parties Wondering why Dunkin’ doesn’t sponsor us at practically every competition The excitement of seeing a teammate skate to a new song Finding familiar faces from other schools at competitions All the challenges we face together, that make our skating family stronger! Did we miss any? Comment what you miss most about being with your team! See more

For many of us, getting back in our skates after a long hiatus feels like reconnecting with a long lost love. There is an expressive art that only the ice can deliver. Stay grateful. Stay passionate. Skate like it’s your last chance. It’s a gift to have a love so strong. Appreciate what you’re capable of! Beautiful spin credit to Emma Clarke @stellata1
