Freedom Style Yoga by Erich Schiffmann As we begin, please understand that the various postures are designed to open and release the various tight areas of your body gradually. It may take you a while before you can do them all with ease. Be patient. Take your time. Enjoy the process. Keep in mind that the poses are not the destinations, nor are they strange contortions to force yourself into for some esoteric purpose. They are a part of an ongoing process of self-exploration and self-healing. Each individual pose is a map into a specific area of your self and where you are in the pose is the pose for you. Immersing yourself in the process is the important thing. That's what's interesting, not the achievement of elaborate postures. "Involvement" in the process will yield the results you desire.

Kundalini Yoga is a five-thousand-year-old authentic system of yoga that was kept secret. It was passed down from guru to chosen disciple until 1969 when Yogi Bhajan introduced it to the U.S. Kundalini Yoga consists of hundreds of Kriyas (exercise sets that create a certain effect), breath work, meditations, and mantras (sound) that promote health and happiness. Kundalini Yoga helps to strengthen and balance the nervous, glandular, and circulatory systems, regulate moods, process emotion, and develop concentration. The exercises bring the body and mind to a state where deep meditation is quickly and easily achieved; one leaves class feeling energized and blissful. Appropriate for all levels. It is fun and has great music!
Hatha Yoga combines traditional, sequenced classic yoga postures and pranayama (breathing) with inner focus and meditative awareness. The intention is to bring body, mind, and soul into its natural state of integration or harmony. We study and practice the Kripalu Yoga and Amrit Yoga styles of Hatha yoga, which deals with the balance of opposites: Ha=Sun, and Tha=Moon. Each class is a balance of movement and stationary poses. The posture sequences are designed to create a balanced yoga experience by exercising the spine and body; forward and back bends, twists, inversions, and standing poses that develop balance as well. Leave class feeling strong, limber, centered and calm.

Colleen’s Classic Yoga is located in a cozy studio on a quiet street right off Haverford Ave in Narberth. The studio is a nurturing environment for those who wish to practice the ancient and authentic science of yoga. Our classes come from several prominent Yoga Traditions (Kripalu, Amrit, and Kundalini.) which believe Yoga is more than physical exercise; but a holistic practice, a lifestyle. The studio offers courses of study for beginner’s as well as experienced students, including three levels of Hatha Yoga: Gentle, All-Level, and Intermediate, as well as All-Levels Kundalini. Every class incorporates: asana (poses), breath, inner focus and meditative awareness.
Colleen Schoenhard holds certifications from two strong yoga lineages: Hatha Yoga (specifically Amrit and Kripalu styles) and Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan. She has studied with several internationally recognized teachers including Yogi Amrit Desai, Yoganand Michael Carroll, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Shiva Rea, Hari Kaur, Hari Kirin Kaur, the Sada Sat Singhs. Colleen has practiced other yoga traditions such as Bikram, Power, Yin, and Vinyasa. She found that Hatha, and ...Kundalini Yoga suit her best. Colleen has had a personal practice and taught yoga for over 25 years, 17 of which were at the Yoga Garden in Narberth. She has been a yoga consultant and workshop leader at U. of Penn Hospital. Colleen also taught yoga to cancer patients and caregivers at Penn Valley Forge for nearly three years.
