This summer we shared a story about Chaz (https://cisworks.org/to-go-far-go-together-chaz-and-jackie/) and the important and inspiring work he does in his communityorganizing food drives, sitting on the board of five different organizations, and advocating in myriad ways for people with disabilities. Today, we’re over the moon to share that he landed an amazing job as an Activity Assistant at the Tucker House Nursing Home. What makes this particularly sweet news to share ...is that the job allows Chaz to capitalize on his passion for helping others. In his new role, he gets to work firsthand with Tucker Home residents, help plan fun and engaging activities, and bring to the people there the same care, kindness, and selflessness he brings to his work in the community. We’re so proud to see Chaz’s patience and perseverance rewarded with the kind of job that anyone would hope forone where you do what you love and you love what you do. Today we’re excited to introduce you to Justin! The past six months have been a time of amazing growth for him in his job. Though he’s been working at The Home Depot for nearly two years, in April he switched locations to a Home Depot closer to his home. It’s been incredible to see how he’s thrived there. Where before he worked primarily in Receiving, he has greatly added to his skill set, and now works in the paint department, the garden section, and in cart collection. Whe...n we caught up with Justin, he was talking to a customer about a paint project they had in mind. He’s become an expert in that department, and helps customers pick out paint types and colors, and then mixes the paint for them once they’ve made their choice. His supervisor at the new location has been hugely supportive, and told us he’s been so impressed with how quickly Justin has learned the skills of the department. We are truly thrilled to see Justin flourishing in his job, and in this month devoted to celebrating America’s workers with disabilities we want to give a shout out to the employers who support them and recognize the important contributions they make in the workplace. #NDEAM + #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth

Long-time CIS participant John is dear to so many of us who are lucky to know him, so we’ve been celebrating a little extra on his behalf at the news that his work schedule’s been bumped up to five days a week. That was one of John’s employment goals, and we are so proud to see him achieve it. As a Utility Worker at Rite Aid, he’s seen his range of responsibilities expand throughout the pandemic. He’s been doing the important work of ensuring the well-being of employees and ...customers by maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the facilities. John was making his rounds when we checked in with him on a recent Wednesday morning. John came over to say hello, and agreed to pose for a couple pictures. In the midst of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re happy to see John’s excellent work and dedication be recognized with additional hours, and so proud of him for achieving this goal. #NDEAM + #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth

As we continue our celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re excited to honor our own Robin Marshall--Manager of Business Development Specialist at CISfor the outstanding job she’s done advocating for and supporting our participants. Robin has been at CIS for over 25 years, and forming strong relationshipswith employers, with participants, and with her colleagueshas been central to her approach since day one. Since the start of the pandemic, th...e strength of the relationships Robin has formed and the success of her approach have really stood out: since March she has helped place over 35 participants in new jobs! One of them is Kim M., who began looking for a job in early May. In just a few weeks of working with Robin, she found a job on the Food Prep team at Boston Market, and after just two months, she was promoted to a full-time position. We are so lucky to have Robin as part of the CIS team, and we congratulate her as she nears 30 years of helping participants find and thrive in meaningful, fulfilling jobs. As we wind down the first full week of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re excited to bring you this story from Milford, Delaware, where Simon works as a Production Assistant at First State Manufacturing. Since he first started at FSM, Simon’s thrived in a certified 'Very Cool Job'. The nationally-renowned seating and industrial upholstery company partners with iconic American brands, including Procter & Gamble, sewing the threads that connect and protect u...s. FSM is also proud to be a verified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. Lately, Simon dove right into a joint project with the DC Metro, helping to remove and replace old seat-covers with refurbished ones provided by FSM. He’s pictured here at FSM’s state-of-the-art facility along with CIS Employment Trainer Greg K. Simon plays a vital role in the ongoing project, and has stood out for the care and attention to detail he brings to his work. We are so proud of Simon and the great work he’s doing at FSM, as we are of our excellent team of Business Developers and Employment Support Specialists that support people with disabilities throughout Delaware via our offices in Middletown and Milford. As we continue our celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re excited to feature Milek, a Front-End Loader at Lowe's who’s been doing a standout job since he first began working there in March. He’s impressed his managers with how quickly he’s mastered the ins-and outs of the position, and he’s been a huge help at the home improvement store since the start of the pandemic, ensuring contactless loading of goods to the cars and trucks of customers. W...hen we stopped in recently to say hello, Milek was out front, loading propane tanks into customers' cars. On his break, he told us things have been going great, and that he’d been enjoying working outside in the pleasant fall weather. Since he first started at Lowe’s, he’s gained a reputation for being independent, focused, and dedicated to his work. Even as the leaves on the trees slowly change color, we continue to go full speed ahead at CIS: in August and September, our crack team of Business Development Specialists placed over 70 people in new jobs across Pennsylvania and Delaware. In this past month alone, our participants were hired in an array of diverse and exciting jobs, from an Activities Coordinator position at a nursing home, to a job on the Production Team at LAGOS Jewelry, the renowned local jewelry maker, t...o a variety of sales and customer service positions at places such as Marshalls, The Home Depot, Lowe's Home Improvement, and FORMAN MILLS. We are so excited for all of our hardworking participants beginning new jobs, and grateful to our Employment Specialists helping them develop the skills to thrive. But we’d also like to give a special shout out to the stores and companies who are helping our participants get back to work. It’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and we’re grateful to these employers for recognizing the tremendous value that people with disabilities bring to the workforce. We’re excited to kick off National Disability Employment Awareness Month by celebrating Lior, who was recently named Employee of the Month at the Whole Foods Market where he works. Lior works in the Prepared Foods department, and has had a transformative effect since he began working there. His manager described him as a lynchpin in the community of employees, and credited him with single-handedly turning around the dish room due to his hard work and the way he brings p...eople together. He’s unflappable, said Trevor Van Adelsberg, Business Development Specialist at CIS. He re-organized the whole environment, and by doing his job so efficiently he really keeps the other stations moving well. #NDEAM is all about increasing visibility of the tremendous value people with disabilities bring to the places where they work, and we are proud and gratified to see Lior receive this honor. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! NDEAM is a celebration of America’s workers with disabilities, and the tremendous value they bring to the workforce. It is also a time to celebrate the businesses that have embraced inclusive hiring practices, and spread the word about the benefits that can be achieved by working with organizations like CIS to hire, train, and retain quality workers with disabilities. ... Throughout October, we’ll be sharing stories of CIS participantsgrocery store clerks, administrative professionals, caretakers and activity coordinators at local nursing homes, and beyondand the important contributions they make at their places of employment.
