New area code for Northwest PA: 582! The 814 area code is running out of numbers and a new 582 area code will be overlaid soon. No one will have to get new phone numbers or "give up" their 814 area code but we all will have to start dialing the area code plus the seven digit number starting 4/3/21. You can use ten digit dialing right now if you want to get in the habit but if you don't starting on 4/3/21 you'll hear an announcement telling you what you need to use the new dialing method. Don't forget to change any speed dials you may have programmed into your home equipment and if you need help updating your contacts in your cellular phone, stop on in!
