DID YOU KNOW?? Candy Wrappers are not recyclable in your curbside recycling or at Lucas County drop off locations. This means that a lot of candy wrappers are g...oing to make their way to the landfill this Halloween Season. Even worse, many wrappers don't actually make it to the landfill. Instead they become litter, lining our neighborhood streets and washing into our rivers and lakes. Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful and the Board of Lucas County Commissioners aims to change this. In partnership with the City of Toledo and Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. we will be collecting candy wrappers this Halloween Season. Collect your candy wrappers at home and take them to one of our drop-off location at the Toledo Zoo or any YMCA of Greater Toledo Branch location. Collection will begin October 19th and run through November 15th.
On September 18, 2020, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed environmental justice Senate Bill S232 into law. The law requires the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to evaluate environmental and public health stressors of certain facilities on the state’s overburdened communities and only grant or renew permits for certain facilities after determining that disproportional and/or cumulative impacts to these communities do not occur as a result of the new or revised permit. Read our blog for more information. The NJDEP is hosting a public information webinar on October 22. Register by October 20 to attend. https://hubs.li/H0y867M0
