On this day in 1904 the Gayety Theater now the Byham Theater opened its doors with a performance of "Way Down East." The theater wowed visitors with its indulgence in electricity; 3,000 light bulbs brought the space to life. And the range of visitors coming to see shows was wider than ever before. The Gayety's original owners boasted that the theater "the finest plays in the best decor for a third of the cost of any other theater in town. After the vaudeville and burlesque era of the Gayety, the theater would go on to live as the Fulton Theater, and now the Byham. What are your favorite memories from over the years?
