Due to COVID. The American legion post 40 in Danville Pa, was not able to visit local veterans in nursing homes this year. To show the veterans that we are still thinking about them and appreciate what they did. We created a video to play for the veterans. I was able to upload the video to YouTube. Here is the link to the video. Please share this video and pass this information to anybody that you think would enjoy it. I would also like to thank everybody who submit a video or helped with get the word out about this project. The response was far better than I ever thought. Today (November 11) there will be a veteran’s appreciation ceremony at the American Legion parking lot. This event is rain or shine so bring a chair and an umbrella. The ceremony will also be transmitted on frequency 93.9 and can be heard on your car radio, but only in the American Legion parking lot.
DUE TO POSSIBLE RAIN. THE VETERANS DAY CEREMONY ON NOVEMBER 11 AT 11AM. CAN ALSO BE HEARD IN THE LEGION PARKING LOT ON YOUR CAR RADIO STATION 93.9 MHZ. THIS CAN ONLY BE HEARD ON YOUR RADIO IN THE LEGIONS PARKING LOT.
Each night at 6 PM with the ringing of the bell inside the legion. Retreat and TAPS will also be played in the legion’s parking lots. While every Veteran knows that the military has specific protocols to follow during the playing of Retreat and TAPS, the nonveteran may not be aware of such protocols. At the first notes of Retreat, stop where you are. Come to attention and turn to face the large American flag at the front of the building. (If you are in moving vehicle, please park it first). Due to a 2007 act of Congress, veterans can render the military-style hand salute during this time. Nonveterans should stand at attention and place their right hand over their heart until the last note of TAPS.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic. The MILITARY FUNERAL HONORS PROGRAM has been temporarily suspended. If you know of any veteran (American legion member or not) that is from the Danville area and pass away during this time period, please pass this information on to their family. To ensure all deceased veterans are given the proper honors. The Danville American Legion honor guard will have a ceremony to honor them. There are no details when and where this ceremony will occur. T...his will all depend on when it will be safe to gather and the number of deceased veterans. Since funeral directors can get the proper flags for this ceremony at no cost to the family. (they will need a copy of the veteran’s discharge papers). All you as family member will need to do is inform the funeral director that you would like to have at a future date the military funeral honor. Then contact Dave Callahan from the honor guard at 570-271-1145 so that he can add this information to his list. If you have any questions, please contact Dave at the above phone number. See more
