As a pony/horse owner this is crucial for you to understand for the health and longevity of your pony. As an owner/rider/trainer of many ponies/horses I feel li...ke there's a basic understanding that is lost on many many riders worldwide. If you are sitting on your horse like a chair with your feet anywhere other than under your hip you are causing problems for your animal. If your horse travels inverted/behind the vertical it WILL have pain and problems. If your hands have more contact than your legs... you WILL have problems.

I am a lesson horse. I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson horse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse. I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse. ... I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse. I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse. At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse. At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse. I am a lesson horse. *stolen from a friend *
View from our outdoor arena. Love the changing leaves!
While crossing the highway today and having a car blow right past me it made me think maybe people just don't know what the proper etiquette is for passing a ho...rse. Here is my PSA..... you are passing an animal! While I like to believe I am in full control of this animal. At the end of the day she is 1000lbs and fully capable of spooking or jumping at anytime. You should treat passing a horse just as you would passing a deer. Treat it like you don't know what direction they are going, because you don't. If a deer can total out a car imagine what a horse would do. You could likely kill me, my horse, and yourself. So as kindly as I can possibly say it slow down! If you have a teen driver please inform them.
I have a couple spots open for training!! Message Darcy Blount for details!

30 Days Does Not Make a Well Broke Horse (Neither will 90, if you were wondering). If we could only make this truth fully understood in the horse world, there would be so much time/money loss, anxiety, heartbreak and injury that could be avoided? When you take an un-started (or worse, poorly started) horse to a trainer, thirty days is not enough for the vast majority of horses if you are expecting a calm, quiet horse that is light to ride, yet not overreactive to stimulus. Al...so, since you sought out a trainer, you’re probably not one. What your horse and trainer can do after 30, 60 or 90 days is probably not what you and your horse can do together when you bring him/her home. A more realistic expectation of a 90 day horse is that they now have a solid foundation of the basics. What those basics actually are will vary with each horse, their temperament, and the amount (and quality) of handling they had previously received, but regardless, you will not have a finished horse. You do not USUALLY have a beginner safe horse, either. The expectation that you could is unfair to the horse and the industry, really. Additionally, he/she may not retain what he learns, unless you continue to work with the horse with a similar skill set and regularity. So if you aren’t continuing your own education, you’re possibly going to undo what the horse has actually learned. The moral? Be fair to your horse and your trainer. Give the horse what he needs to get a solid start. Good horses deserve good riders, so train yourself, so that you’re knowledgeable enough to work with your horse effectively. Understand a well rounded, well trained horse often takes years to develop, and they are worth the investment Good training isn’t quick. Good trainers aren’t cheap.

Edit to add: You want to use good judgment. Your horses back, saddle fit and pad shape will determine how much you want to pull your pad up. Be sure you arent c...reating bunching elsewhere. The pad pictured is shaped and built in a way that even when pulled up it remains balanced and flat between the saddle and horse. Pulling your saddle pad up into the pommel. It can can take a bit of practice with saddle shifting and pad pulling, but your horse will appreciate it. Without being pulled up, when the saddle is cinched the pad presses down on the withers potentially causing discomfort. With the pad pulled up into the pommel the withers have room to move and there isn't a pressure point. If you aren't already in the habit of doing this the next time you ride put your fingers between the pad and your horses withers while walking or trotting. It's our job to make sure that they can comfortably carry us. This simple shift can help to make that happen. #conscioushorsemanship #passionbalancepurpose #runningthorsemanship #Buckarooleather #EquineScience #RidgeCreekTack
