To all the wonderful Daughterly Companions families loving someone through Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease - research suggests that listening to or singing songs can provide emotional and behavioral benefits for these patients. Musical memories are often preserved in Alzheimer's disease because key brain areas linked to musical memory are relatively undamaged by the disease.

Daughterly Companions and Daughterly Home Health want to reach out to our caregivers (our nurses, our CNA’s, aides and companions) and all the caregivers that are still going to work everyday to work with our seniors and disabled clients. Facing the challenges of COVID-19 and the changing policies and procedures of our company and of the facilities in which they work. I am borrowing the following post and am sorry I don’t know the author but it says exactly what we want to co...mmunicate. Thank you Joan Mullin McCormick for sharing it with me. In home care and home health we are not fighting the same battle that everyone else is fighting against COVID-19. Our battle looks a lot different. We’re fighting to protect our elders from the outside world. We’re fighting against depression and loneliness. We are fighting boredom and confusion caused by dementia and alzheimers. We are trying our best to make the situation better without scaring them. We are fighting the frustration of family members not being able to visit and families who feel disconnected and fear for their loved ones. Before this crisis and after it is over, we will give comforting words and do our best to create fun activities that can be done safely. We will hold phones so loved ones can talk to their loved one who is unable to communicate and reassure them everything is ok. We might not be fighting this battle head on like everyone else but we are doing our best to make sure the seniors in our care get the love and support they need during this challenging time.
