Thank you to Local Historia for featuring the David House Heritage Museum and the Mountaintop in its ongoing efforts to raise awareness of Centre County's rich history.
Merry Christmas! Slovaks on the Mountaintop settled largely in Clarence and brought with them the holiday tradition of Jaslickari. Men dressed as shepherds and visited neighbors singing Christmas carols. While the tradition is gone, a number of grown residents remember being scared as children by the rowdy, festive visitors. Note: Same manger appears to be in both photos. First photo: 1968, names attached. Second photo: not dated, taken outside Andrew Shutika's store on Clarence Rd. Top row L to R: George Konachik, John Duke, John Kachik, George Kachik Learn More: http://www.carpatho-rusyn.org/customs/highland.html
Fascinating post from Grassflat Grown about the history of local bands that existed throughout the region in the early 20th century. David House will be posting pictures of some Mountaintop bands from our "Musical Band" binder at the museum. Grassflat Grown
The David House is thrilled to have a new video to help promote our museum which is dedicated to the history of the Mountaintop. A huge thank you to Kristin Dreyer who created this as part of a Centre County leadership program. 2020 has been a tough year for the community, our businesses and for the David House which has been closed all year due to COVID. Looking forward to seeing you in 2021. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDEkAmWk7xo

The Budinger Family home, 101 N 6th Street, Snow Shoe. Thank you to Patsy Harvey-Herider for sharing the family photos. Patsy's grandmother, Edith Budinger, was married in this home in 1911. Many will remember Miss Pauline Budinger, principal and 6th grade teacher at Snow Shoe Elementary. She was the daughter of William, Edith's brother.
