Good Evening! We are approaching nearly a week away from our soup sale! We have had over 80 quarts ordered online but we want to make sure everyone knows you can still come to the fire station on February 7th starting at 10am to purchase yours! You DO NOT need an online order to purchase. For everyone that ordered online, all you will need to do is stop in and give us your name and we will have your order for you. Please help us out and pick up before noon.

430 AM Update: The Winter Weather Advisory continues for much of the Upper Ohio Valley and Allegheny Mountains. Additionally, Clarion and Jefferson (PA) count...ies have been added to the advisory area. 2-3 inches of snow has already fallen across portions of eastern Ohio, near and west of Zanesville. This snow will gradually spread east over the next few hours. Have you received snow? Please let us know how much snow has fallen thus far with a general location. Today is a rather tricky forecast for just 1 degree Fahrenheit 3,000 feet above the ground may make the difference between snow, sleet, and rain/freezing rain. The highest zone of uncertainty lies approximately along and within 50 miles of the I-70 corridor. Please note the advisory is valid until 10pm Sunday, the timeframe in which *most* of the snow accumulation will occur. Additional snowfall is possible through Tuesday. The map of the right shows the expected snow accumulation through the entirety of the event and not just the advisory period. Have a good Sunday! Please stay safe if traveling today or tomorrow as roadways may become "slippy." Again, please send us your wx reports. Bonus points for pictures w/ rulers. -The Night Shift

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of eastern Ohio, the northern WV panhandle, and western PA. Snowfall accumulation of 3 to 6 inches is ...possible across much of the advisory area, with locally higher amounts. Please note a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for the higher elevations of WV. This will likely become a Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Warning later today as confidence increases. Additional snowfall is likely Monday and Tuesday.

No much change to our expectations for the icing threat tonight into Tuesday. The greatest uncertainty is whether the advisory will need to be expanded a bit further south in places like Pittsburgh and New Philadelphia. We'll keep you updated through the event!

Today volunteers from Plumville District Volunteer Fire Dept , Rural Valley Hose Co. #1 and Dayton VFD held a training on a soon to be demolished structure. All three companies performed multiple evolutions/scenarios working together to better ourselves for the community. We would like to thank the Prindible Family for giving us access to this house, as we do not receive many opportunities like this to practice. Some pictures were taken today, courtesy of 4Props Photography. Thank you to Rural Valley FD and Plumville for not only attending but continuing to teach and make everyone better for our citizens'.

So the snows here if you didn't notice from everyone on facebook telling you, or using the windows in your house or office. Due to the cold road temps its sticking immediately. If traveling, please allow extra time and get their safely, plus this could end up being one of the larger snowfalls in our area the last 10+ years if forecasts hold true, so also be sure your furnace vents are clear, and check on neighbors as well if the snow keeps them in. We're on call as always, b...ut we'd rather not have to visit tonight. Stay Safe

Freezing Rain, Snow, & Rain expected this afternoon through Tues. Higher amounts of freezing rain are expected across the ridges and higher elevations. Light ice accumulation is expected north of Pittsburgh. Generally an inch or less of snow is expected north of Pittsburgh.

Here is a look at when you should see accumulating snow start and end. There remains high confidence that the heaviest snowfall will occur this late afternoon through tonight, before tapering off Thursday morning. Visit https://www.weather.gov/pbz/winter for additional information.

Still fine tuning the snowfall amounts with the arrival of new model data. No major changes, just a slight shift westward of higher snow amounts. This has neces...sitated expanding the warning a bit as well. Light snow will spread northward across the region this morning and afternoon. Models are in pretty good agreement that snowfall rates will really pick up after 3 or 4pm. These higher rates should last through the evening hours and then taper off after midnight as the storm moves out to sea. Everyone stay safe out there. See more

Congratulations to three of our members that completed the new curriculum for vehicle rescue. The three members that took the time out of the last month all achieved vehicle rescue technician certifications which is the highest level of non-specialized rescue. Members spent 24 hours of the awareness level, 20 hours of operations level and successfully passed the 75 question exam from the PA Department of Health. Congratulations to:... On Sunday October 25th, our station was activated for a motor vehicle accident on Route 839 (Dayton Rd) with entrapment. In this area, Hawthorn (Station 560) QRS and Clarion Hospital EMS from New Bethlehem are also automatically activated to respond. Attack 30 arrived on scene first to find two vehicles that hit nearly head on. Four of our EMT s immediately began patient care for an unrestrained, critical patient entrapped in the first vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle... was uninjured. Air medical was requested to the scene, but was originally denying due to weather issues. Rescue 30 arrived next on the scene to begin extricating the patient. Extrication was complete with patient fully immobilized in under five minutes. Our QRS with members of 560 QRS provided patient care for approximately 5-10 more minutes until EMS arrival. Stat MedEvac later accepted the flight and was landed nearby the accident scene and handled by Hawthorn Fire. Life saving measures were performed by all parties involved then StatMedevac transported the patient to a UPMC hospital. We are happy to report that patient that was flown looks to be able to make a recovery, but with much medical care yet to come as they are still in the ICU. The hospital wanted us to tell all of our first responders including Hawthorn Area Volunteer Fire , Hawthorn Area Volunteer Fire Department - Station 560, Clarion Hospital Ems Station 4 and STAT MedEvac that without the measures taken that night, that individual would not of made it. Thank you to all that assisted that night. Please everyone remember to always wear your seat belt and be extra careful on these wet, leaf covered roads.
