Leonardo da Pisa (aka Fibonacci) traveled to the Middle East in his 20s to study mathematical ideas that had come west from India through Persia. When he returned home he wrote "Liber Abbaci" to introduce the Hindu-Arabic numeric system that changed mathematics forever. Can you imagine adding or multiplying Roman numerals? Fibonacci's mathematical revolution was possible thanks to previous work by the father of algebra, Al-Khwarizmi, who was appointed astronomer and head l...ibrarian of the House of Wisdom, an ancient, lost Islamic library, in 821. Read the full article from BBC to learn more about the connection between these two mathematicians and how they shaped modern math and science!
