Five Dingman Township volunteers responded at 2315 hours last night as part of the first alarm assignment for a residential structure fire on Whippletree Ln. in Hemlock Farms. The crew made the treacherous trip on board 26 Ladder to arrive on scene 2nd and went to work assisting the Hemlock Farms crew with extinguishing the fully involved unoccupied house. The fire went to a 2nd alarm bringing crews from Bushkill, Greeley, Milford, and Westfall FDs. Unfortunately the fi...re burned undetected for some time before being reported by a neighbor rendering the home a total loss. Dingman Township personnel were in service for 4 hours at Hemlock Farms. 12 hours later the EMS crew responded to a vehicle fire along with the Delaware Fire Co. on South Nichecronk Rd. Disappointed that we couldn’t bring you our Breakfast with Santa this year, we’ve been working very closely with the big man in arranging a visit to our area. As you all know, this time a year his schedule is pretty full and in an effort to see as many of you as possible we got him to agree to take a ride with us on the trucks through the Dingman Township communities similar to what his buddy the Easter Bunny did this past spring. His plan is to be in our area around noon on Sunday, December 13th. We will post a list of communities and times he will be passing through later this week. He (and our elves) are looking forward to seeing all of you!

As the first major snow storm of the season is poised to strike our area in less than 24 hours, we urge you all to be ready for the next several days. Roads will be treacherous during the storm and any travel is greatly discouraged. If you must travel, equip your vehicle with a winter emergency kit. When shoveling the snow, listen to your body. Do not over exert!... Power outages are a possibility during the storm: Have an emergency supply kit ready for your home. If you use a generator or external (kerosene or propane) heat source be mindful of their dangers especially colorless, odorless Carbon Monoxide. We will monitor the conditions during the storm in the event a shelter would be required. As always, in the event you require fire, medical, or police assistance dial 9-1-1. Please DO NOT call your community’s security department first for these emergencies as it just delays the process. If you need non emergent Fire Department assistance we can be reached at 570-296-7700.

Unfortunately, the continued decline of volunteerism in today’s world coupled with the effects of restrictions placed on our current volunteers due to the Covid virus, made responding to medical emergencies difficult for our department. The membership was at a crossroads, whether to abandon responding to EMS calls altogether or come up with a plan to ensure Dingman Township continued to have an ambulance based in the Township. We are happy to report that after many meetings..., emails, and phone calls that you will continue to have an ambulance stationed in Dingman Township. At 0600 hours this morning, the first paid EMS crew went into service at our station and responded to their first call 53 minutes later. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the area EMS agencies, the Dingman Township Board of Supervisors, the numerous EMS companies that gave input, and last but not least the people in Dingman Township for your assistance and continued support during this difficult transition. In closing, we would like to remind everyone there is still plenty of opportunities to volunteer as a firefighter or medical person within our department, please stop down on any Wednesday evening at 7 to see what we are about. If you cannot make Wednesday, leave a message here on Facebook or at 570-686-3696. We wish you all a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

Just 0030 hours today our 1st alarm assignment for a possible structure fire on Conashaugh Trl. in Conashaugh Lakes was sounded. 26 Ladder and Tanker arrived on scene and found a chimney fire in the flue pipe that extended to the wall near the pipe. Crew extinguished the remainder of the fire limiting the damage to the area directly near the flue pipe. As we are now into the winter season, please have your home heating appliances and their components inspected and serviced to ensure they are functioning properly and safely.
