The CROP Walk in Downingtown is happening this coming Sunday. The CROP Walk, sponsored by the Church World Service, raises money to alleviate hunger, both world-wide and locally, with 25% of funds raised going to local hunger efforts. Because of the pandemic, walkers won't walk together this year, but will take our own separate walks. Please join us on Sunday, October 4. We are encouraged to walk at 2:00, the usual time, but can walk any time that day. You can register to wal...k and/or make a donation at this site: https://www.crophungerwalk.org//Downingtown-Friends-Meeting Feel free to join as a walker and send the link to others for donations. This is one way we can help make a difference. Quakers believe in that of God in everyone. And when that conviction leads us to acknowledge the full humanity of African-Americans, Sterling Duns says we’re doing something radically counter-cultural. SUBSCRIBE for free weekly videos in your inbox! http://QuakerSpeak.com/subscribe

When Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge saw the footage of George Floyd dying at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, "it was difficult for me to imagine that such... violence could happen from someone in uniform in a country I regarded as a free country." It brought back memories of the South African government's brutal repression of the anti-apartheid movementwhere, as an activist, she met Jeremy Routledge and was called to the Quaker commitment to nonviolent resistance.

A good reminder for many of us

Bayard Rustin was a nonviolent movement strategist, lifelong Quaker, and brilliant Civil Rights organizer that we should all know about but often don't because he was also a gay man in an era when that was considered a liability (not to mention a crime), so he was forced to stay in the background. He was also from West Chester! Bayard credited his Quaker faith for his activism and his firm conviction that all people are equal and part of one human family. We are all one, he said. And if we don’t know it, we will learn it the hard way.

"When an individual is protesting society's refusal to acknowledge his dignity as a human being, his very act of protest confers dignity on him." - Bayard Rusti...n It's important that we listen to People of Color, especially now. QuakerSpeak has had the honor of interviewing several Friends of Color with distinctive perspectives and essential ministries to share. We've gathered many of these interviews together in a new playlist.
