We would like to wish Charlie & Co. Barbershop a happy 1 year anniversary! Did you know that the building they’re located in has been a barbershop for the past 98 years? In honor of their anniversary, here’s a little bit of the shop’s history and how it came to be what it is today! Built in 1823 at 130 North Church St, the building was first home to a Tin Smith and then Dulins Plumbing. In 1923, a man named Charlie Keener took over the space and opened the first Charlie’s Ba...rbershop. After Keener, the building was owned by a few different people, and in 1973, Allen Cook took over the shop, renaming it Allen Cook’s Barbershop. It remained Allen Cook’s for 47 years until March 2020 (one year ago), when Amy Rose took over, turning it into Charlie & Co. Barbershop! Growing up, Amy’s father went to Allen Cook’s Barbershop for 35 years and would often bring Amy and her siblings with him. When taking over the shop last year, it was only fitting that she chose to name it after her Dad, Charlie, which brings the shop full circle back to it’s original name!
