The Stroudsburg Fire Department annual Christmas Display on Ann Street in Stroudsburg opens TONIGHT! Where: The 500 block of Ann Street along McMichael’s Falls.... When: Nightly from 6-9pm. From Monday December 14th through New Year’s Day. Cost: FREE! There is no cost to drive by, walk through, or enjoy this display. Donations are graciously accepted, but not required. Covid-19: Due to social distancing guidelines we will not have Santa or Candycanes this year. FYI: This display isn’t even close to some of the fancy, bright, elaborate displays across the country, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! It is hand made, maintained for decades, and is a part of Christmas folklore in our small town. We love it for the nostalgia it encompasses, and we love that for generations it has stood the test of time. Please respect the display and stay out of the fenced in areas. We have lost pieces over the years and hope to keep this tradition alive. Happy Holidays.

On this #ShoutoutSunday we'd like to send a scary-good shoutout to the Hotel of Horror in Saylorsburg. Occupying the former Lake House Hotel, this popular Hallo...ween destination has frightened Monroe County residents and visitors for many years, with the first haunted attraction opening here in 1992. The history of the hotel itself actually goes back 200 years, though. Established in 1820 at the corner of Old Route 115 and Cherry Valley Road, the Lake House Hotel, once called the Saylorsburg Inn, drew tourists who were attracted to nearby Saylors Lake. Business gradually declined, and the hotel shut down for a time until the coming of the railroad to Wind Gap in 1882 renewed interest in the area. Saylors Lake gained a reputation as a popular tourist attraction for swimming, boating, and picnicking, and the owners of the hotel completed an addition between 1894 and 1900 to accommodate the increase in visitors. This photograph from our collection shows the Lake House Hotel as it appeared in 1908. After many successful years, the hotel again saw a decline in business. It eventually closed for good and was sold in 1990. The building then served as an antique co-op for a couple years before becoming the terrifying haunted attraction of today. #HauntedHotel #HamiltonTownship #MonroeCountyPA
