Duncannon Residents, In early September, the borough’s water system began losing water at a higher rate than had been experienced over the last few years. The losses were outpacing the gains that could be made from our wells. This required the borough to have trucks haul in water for several days, as the borough’s reservoir and standpipe began reaching critical levels, and additional water was needed to maintain pressure and supply in the system. During this time, various le...ak detection activities continued to be completed, including the additional of special meters in the system that were installed with the recently completed valve project. Using these new meters and newly installed valves in conjunction with our normal leak detection activities, the borough and our contractors were able to locate and repair 4 leaks within the system. These leaks included a significant leak, that was able to be pinpointed and repaired on 9/29/20. Following the repair, the borough’s water losses declined substantially, and by Friday 10/2/20, the system was able to reach near full storage capacity and water was no longer required to be delivered. With water no longer being delivered and all appropriate testing completed, DEP has given approval to lift the boil water advisory. I would like to thank all residents who worked to conserve water over the past few months, along with all the borough staff and crew, our water operators PESI, and Greg Klimovsky of Fluid Pinpointing for their work over the past few weeks. I hope that we can continue to collaborate to continue the positive work we were able to accomplish during this water loss crisis. A special thank you to the Millersburg Area Authority for providing the water, I hope we are able to return the favor. Residents, please remember that if you see standing water in areas, such as your yard, that would normally be dry, or a soft spot or sinkhole, let the borough office know at 717-834-4311, as those can be signs of a water leak. This is an important message from the Duncannon Borough. We are currently experiencing extremely low water levels in our storage facilities. This may cause a loss of positive pressure. This possibility requires you as a consumer to take the following actions, effective immediately. You must boil all water prior to consumption. This means any water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled before use. Do not drink the water before boiling it first! For more information about this public notice, visit our website at www.duncannonboro.org, visit our Facebook page, or call the Borough Office at 717-834-4311.

UTILITY SHUT-OFFS TO RESUME. Thank you to those customers who have continued to make timely utility payments. Though not required, the Borough has kept in line with the Public Utility Commission procedures regarding utility shut-offs during the COVID-19 crisis. Since April, we have kept our delinquent customers updated monthly with current account balances. On Tuesday, September 15th, Borough Council voted unanimously to reinstate penalties (Oct 6) and shut-offs (mid-October) for accounts with past due balances. If you have an outstanding balance, please call the Borough office at 717-834-4311 to discuss payment options. Thank you.

TRICK OR TREAT It is suggested that families Trick or Treat each year on October 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is in order to give motorists, police, and residents an idea of when to expect extra pedestrian traffic so that they may be more cautious. The Borough will not reschedule or offer a ‘rain date’ as this is not an official Borough sponsored event. Participation and scheduling is up to each family and it is up to each family to decide what is best for them.
