The Officers and Members of the Riegelsville and Ottsvile Fire Companies are currently researching, investigating and planning the potential consolidation of fi...re companies. The consolidation of companies will be guided by a professional firm that will allow us to address all financial, apparatus, membership and response aspects of the new company. We are working to build the strongest emergency response network for our community possible! We are bringing two already strong agencies together to increase our ability to train and certify our members while streamlining equipment and maximize purchasing power. It will also allow us to explore new funding opportunities in a world that is becoming ever difficult to maintain 100% volunteer based organizations. Please understand that this is a positive step in strengthening our services to our community! See more

Just because it stopped snowing does not mean the roads are normal. Lots of black ice tonight. Many roads are very narrow, especially 212 and 412! There are man...y plow trucks out trying to clear driveways! Please drive with extreme caution for the next few days. Wind is also going to kick up tomorrow. Even the major roads still have icy and slushy on and off ramps. Thank you Palisades for keeping kids home tomorrow. Roads are not yet fit for busses. Be careful out there! See more

Information received from Region 7 Dog Law Enforcement Supervisor Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture | Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement: www.agriculture.pa.gov www.licenseyourdogpa.com Every day, Pennsylvania dog wardens are watching out for thousands of furry friends. From returning stray dogs to their owners, to inspecting the kennels where many dogs start their lives and the shelters where many dogs wait patiently for their forever homes, the Bureau of Dog Law is committ...ed to keeping dogs safe. The wellbeing of pups across Pennsylvania is currently at risk. The fund that allows dog wardens to perform this important work is nearly out of money. Don’t let this important work stop. Just last year, more than 600 stray dogs were either reunited with their owners or brought to safe shelter to wait for a forever home by PA dog wardens. But the fund that fuels their important work is about to go red. Support a dog license fee increase in Pennsylvania. Did you know that PA dog license fees have not increased since 1996? In that same time Postage increased by 72% A loaf of bread increased by 114% A gallon of milk increased by 182% A gallon of gas increased by 133% The Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement will run out of funds to operate in September. Their work protects all Pennsylvanians both humans and the four-legged and furry. Last year, the department conducted over 5,800 kennel inspections and issued over 2,700 citations. Help Pennsylvania dog wardens continue cracking down on illegal kennels in the state and protect dogs that start their lives there. #DidYouKnow, that in 2008, Pennsylvania dog law underwent a major reform, giving dog wardens the ability to crack down on poor conditions in kennels and ensure that hundreds of thousands of dogs in licensed kennels receive proper care? In addition to conducting these stringent inspections, wardens also work diligently to uncover the many illegal kennels operating in PA. We can’t go back! See more

PennDOT’s ‘Innovations Challenge’ Invites Students to Develop Solution to Ensure Adequate Transportation Funding for the Future Harrisburg, PA The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the fourth annual PennDOT Innovations Challenge, which encourages students to use their problem-solving, creative and strategic-thinking abilities to solve real-world transportation challenges in a compet...ition among their peers. One of the goals of the Innovations Challenge is to open students’ minds to the possibility of a career in transportation, maybe even with PennDOT, said PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian. Students working on this project will engage in the very real challenge facing the industry finding a sustainable solution to transportation funding challenges. This year’s Innovations Challenge asks students to develop an innovative and implementable solution that helps address Pennsylvania’s transportation revenue shortfall by identifying potential new funding streams, aside from additional gas taxes, tolls or mileage-based user fees, to help ensure adequate transportation funding for the future. The Innovations Challenge is open to all students in grades 9-12, regardless of their school’s learning model. PennDOT is directly responsible for nearly 40,000 miles of highway and roughly 25,000 bridges, roughly equal to the state-maintained road systems of New York, New Jersey, and all the New England states combined. Much of the funding to maintain that system comes from liquid fuels taxes, which are becoming increasingly unsustainable, especially considering additional impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. With vehicles becoming more fuel efficient and electric vehicles becoming more affordable, gasoline-based revenues can no longer generate the funds needed. Other options, including tolling and mileage-based user fees, are being explored. To meet the needs of its aging infrastructure, Pennsylvania needs to establish a funding stream that will inject an additional $5 billion per year into its transportation system. We appreciate the unique challenges faced by schools during the pandemic, Gramian added. Our educators are to be commended for encouraging the creative thinking needed for the Innovations Challenge. Regional Innovations Challenge winners will be selected and invited to compete for the state championship. The Transportation Policy and Education Foundation, an educational arm of the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors (APC), the American Council of Engineering Companies of PA (ACEC/PA) and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) are providing a combined total award of $5,500 to be divided among the first, second and third place statewide winning teams. For complete Innovations Challenge details, visit www.penndot.gov/innovation. The submission deadline is December 18, 2020.
