When setting up your dead lift, clean, snatch or swing (as in this video) you should aim to find a position where you are wedging your body between the ground (your feet)and the load(the kettlebell), like the wedge being hammered into the wood above. Wedging should should feel so tight that you start to create output force! ... ... Last week I shared a post about the importance of meeting the needs of all learners and using a variety of techniques to meet these needs. One of them being PROPS for both for visual and kinestehic learners. I was reminded of my very FIRST PROP this week so I thought I would share. Throw it back to September 16, 2018! This was the first time I taught in front of a large audience on the field of dreams. Not knowing the details of each of the attendees learning styles I made sure I approached the delivery of the content to try and reach each person and their individual learning styles. The TORCH was the first prop I used to deliver information in a out of the box/ not In your manual way. I wasn’t sure how it was going to be received but I took a leap of faith! I am so glad I did! It was a special moment in time that I’ll never forget. The TORCH has a special place in my heart. It gave me the confidence to teach in my own unique way and trust myself. This TORCH represents my love of teaching and learning. The TORCH is a reminder of all the shining lights in our amazing community! The field may change, but the light shines on! DV8Fitness bell placement methodology as applied to the Kettlebell Swing. Using this portion of the DV8 method will make teaching the Kettlebell Swing easier for the coach by eliminating the roadblocks and unnecessary drills that are usually used when teaching in the systems in current play to practice and teach kettlebell movements made popular in the last few decades. For the student, this bell placement will make learning the Swing much quicker, more powerful and more effi...cient. A system that began to be publicly taught in 2019, this method and the DV8 system created by Phil Scarito is found in no previous written material, courses, or certifications to date. SWIPE RIGHT. _ _ Each of these beautiful people offered to put $100 in the DV8 pot for each person who signed up in their name for 2020 DV8 Certification, with the funds going directly to further diversify the already quite diverse October DV8 student group. $2400 is the amount raised and already received.... $750 is the amount raised that’s still coming from an initiative of the new nonprofit Daye Movement, started by @kentedwards. Of the above: $1400 was the amount contributed by Jen Meehan ALONE. In addition to the above: DV8 HQ kicked in a further $1700 to match the highest amount (@jenmurphymeehan) and a little extra for good measure, as good practice, in leadership. The above amounts contributed to the tuition of numerous students. While the other participants who had sign-ups in their name with contributions were Holly Myers (@liftwithhollyandarryn $500), Lindsey Pantaleon (@lt_linsanity $200), Denzel Allen (@powerofstrength $200), and Marlon Taduran (@mtaduran $100), each person photographed offered to participate of their own volition and at their suggestion on a group call in early June 2020. Not one of them would have been comfortable with any praise going in their direction. So we didn’t give them the option. They are, until they see this, unaware these images or words will be posted. But theyand people like themare what this industry needs, and they deserve to inspire the hearts of others, if others feel so called. I don’t always go into major cities to teach, in fact there is something special about going to smaller cities and towns, especially overseas. Pride in local culture, education seems more important often there, and deep community. I particularly enjoy working with a host that has not been given full opportunity otherwise to participate in spreading education. When a facility or facility owner has been pushed from that mission, I will do whatever I can to offer them the chance. If it works, we go from there and grow. This is one of those places. As their country enters what looks like a second shut down in the pandemic, we send our respects and strength, knowing @girja.brno in Brno Czech Republic will come back stronger than ever. RESPECT . Respect is not making sure we please authority. Respect is making sure we look out for those who trust us. . Male to female, female to male, male to male, female to female, and those whom ascribe to neither: Don’t touch your students without asking, and meaning it.... NOT AN OPTION Though we as leads of Coaching Certifications, Courses, and now Monthly Coaching Programs are typically against the always or never approaches in training, here we hold the line. EXCUSES We hear people say, My country is different. My state doesn’t require it. Great. Respect the boundary. We hear people saying, Isn’t that being a little too sensitive? No. Respect the boundary. WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT ... One of the most intimate professions, coaches deal with people’s bodies and their trust. You’re also in the cooler person spot (you know what we mean) and definitely in the position of authority. You have no idea if your student is just trying to make you happy, be agreeable for the sake of being agreeable, or simply fit in. Your students look up to you. CLIENT RETENTION If nothing else, why lose them to this without ever knowing? Random injuries that make no sense, financial issues, timing becoming a problem. While all of this may be true, these are also the things clients of one-to-one industries use to remove themselves. If you haven’t done it yourself, you surely know someone else who has. THE TIMES MAY HELP Something advantageous about the pandemic in coaching is that trainers are having to steer more clear than normal of physical contact. Whether due to virtual training or social distancing, it’s a way to find advantages in challenges. Still, let’s keep in mind: BASIC Physical Contact Checklist: Don’t touch without asking. Avoid encroaching on your students’ personal space unnecessarily. Use as little touch as necessary, if it takes a few finger pads to display the change you’re looking for vs full palm, respect that and limit the touch. Ask every time. Don’t assume if yesterday was fine that today is too. TRULY FREE SERVICE Takes no time, builds trust and rapport with your students, and is just a class way to go, all around. #daretodv8

A PRIVILEGE TO LISTEN DV8 October Cert student @sarahpolacco shot us a DM a few months ago and said even if the pandemic was better by October, she felt concerns no matter the precautions taken, coming in person to DV8 certify ... and did others? ASK... We took it to the entire #strongstart2020 team and half expressed concern, half did not. ASK BIGGER We then took it to each and every of the 60 paid October registrants, and sure enough it was split. But what to do? They asked if we could do an additional LIVE VIRTUAL event. Two, in factone small group and one large community group, in addition to the LIVE IN-PERSON. If we could, we would support the group who supports us. And with only a month to go at that point, we made it happen. In listening, and putting in that extra work to meet their needs, we kept every single registrant. No one lost a dime, no one lost an ounce of education or quality of education ... in fact, quite the opposite. OPPOSITE? But HOW? In doing so ... an entire new crop of students will learn how to TRAIN AND TEACH THEIR STUDENTS LIVE, VIRTUALLY. A must these days. I have found that one way to gauge your taming of the arc in the Kettlebell Snatch is to add a Kettlebell Swing before it. In both movements, the hips, glutes, and feet are all performing the same action. But the path of the bell varies greatly from Swing to Snatch. After your hips stop moving in both, the bell either travels upwards (Snatch) or out in front of you (Swing). Adding the Swing before the Snatch will give you vital feedback on how close you are keeping the bell t...o your body when performing the Snatch. If your Kettlebell Snatch path feels the same as the Swing, you most likely are keeping the arm too far away from the body, creating a longer path for the bell to travel, and causing a feeling of instability and lack of control on the way up and down. Sometimes we need to pair contrasting movements together in order to feel the differences from one to the other. #kettlebells #kettlebellswing #kettlebellsnatch #tamethearc #daretodv8
