An Important Equine Health Statement: EHV-1 Case Identified at New Bolton Center; Hospital Operations Remain Unaffected [March 5, 2021] - The University of Penn...sylvania’s large animal hospital, New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, has diagnosed a patient admitted with neurologic signs as having Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHV-1). Due to the clinical severity of the acute neurological impairment, the affected patient was euthanized. Together with officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, New Bolton Center has evaluated and deemed the potential for exposure to other animals at New Bolton Center’s hospital to be very limited. The individual animals with potential exposure have been identified and are being monitored closely. At this time, no additional cases have been identified. Due to the limited nature of the potential exposure, New Bolton Center’s hospital operations have not been affected and are fully functional at this time. This case has no known association with international travel, transport, or exhibition, and at this time has no known connection to the situation in Florida or the situation in Europe. New Bolton Center continues to work closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and will provide additional updates as they become available.
