The Doucette House, just after sunrise October 2019

Edinboro Area Historical Society 04.11.2020

We are sorry we have not been able to open the historic Doucette House for visits during the Covid-19 Pandemic. But we wanted to bring you up to date on two terrific developments during the past month. Thanks to the Erie County Historical Society, we recently installed a beautiful, Regency-style desk in the parlor. The ECHS is transferring the desk to EAHS as part of its extensive deaccessioning project. Dating to the late 19th century or early 20th century, the desk is in v...ery good condition, but needs some minor refurbishment. EAHS member Hal Holmstrom will bring his wood craftsman skills to performing them. Meanwhile, Sam Catania crews have painted the front and north sides of the House, as well as the cupola, so far. We discovered some wood damage where some dense foliage was trapping water against the house. Gerry Woods came right over and removed the offending plants. We think the place looks great! Hope to see you there again before long. (Photos by Allan Montgomery. Gardening by Gerry Woods.) See more

The Society recently conferred Honorary Lifetime Membership certificates on five Edinboro area residents who have reached the age of 90. Jack Braun, a former president of the Edinboro Area Historical Society, was one; Jim Drane, Robert Jordan, Jean Steadman and Wayne Lewis also received certificates of gratitude for their contributions to the Edinboro area. The Society appreciates your help in identifying Edinboro area residents 90 years old. They do not have to be members of the Society to be honored. Please write to us at [email protected] if you have a suggestion. Thank you in advance.

Once more with feeling: Takes a lot of skill and courage to shimmy up a dead tree like that! (Photo by Phyllis Woods)
