The scholarship is named in honor of Eastern Elevator’s Founding Mother, Irene M. Westover. Irene was forced to end her education at an early age and help her mother raise her younger siblings upon the accidental death of her father. Irene proceeded to raise eight children whom she nurtured through their educational years. We are committed to advancing education as we present this small token of appreciation and opportunity to those who have been so instrumental in the success and continued success of Eastern Elevator. This scholarship is open to promising recipients who are relatives of full-time Eastern Elevator employees who wish to continue their education, including spouses, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. We look forward to the announcement of our next award winners with extreme gratitude to those who desire to make an impact and change for themselves and their community. Eligible applicants must be accepted into a post-secondary program and will attend a two- or four-year accredited institution of higher learning or a recognized and accredited trade school. Students may be traditional or non-traditional, full- or part-time, and be in any year of their education progress. Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded during this period. Applicants will compete 'amongst' each other and the winner will be selected by a blind panel of neutral judges chosen by the Community Foundation who do not have any relation to Eastern Elevator or their employees. REQUIREMENTS Applicants must: be a spouse, child, stepchild, grandchild, great-grandchild, niece, or nephew of a full-time Eastern Elevator employee. have a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale if they have attended a high school within the last three years. be enrolled or accepted into an eligible post-secondary program. complete a 500 word essay on the following topic: "Why do I deserve this scholarship, and what does serving others mean to me? Going to work every day is what we do but returning home to our loved ones is vital. Employee safety is an area we take very seriously at Eastern Elevator. EES is gearing up for our 2021 Annual Safety Training and we are excited the Safety Director from American Elevator Group will be leading our training this year in conjunction with our Eastern Safety Trainers. We will be sharing pictures after training, so our loved ones can see first-hand how important their family member(s) working at EES/AEG are to us. At EES/AEG we are a family and we look out for each other!
