Rescue 5 participated in picture day for the Octorara Homeland & Protective Services Academy for Octorara High School at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus. The student attending from East Whiteland Fire Company is Dalton Lotz. The Octorara Homeland & Protective Services Academy allows high school students in Chester County to participate in a three-year PA Department of Education approved Career Program of Study. The course prepares cadets for careers in law ...enforcement, corrections, pre-hospital emergency medical care, emergency management, military services, and firefighting. The program requires cadets to wear uniforms and focuses on discipline and teamwork in a para-military environment. Through the program, cadets can earn State and National job-related certifications, many of which are required for entry-level positions directly upon graduation. The intent is to train qualified, competent, and professional emergency first responders. Students are exposed to mentors and representatives in a variety of careers related to these fields almost daily. The program requires cadets to join and participate at their local volunteer fire company to enhance learning and hone skills for testing. See more

The email is requesting feedback on whether or not any of the individuals have already received their vaccine. If you receive this email, it IS from the Chester County Health Department. Station 5 units were called to assist our mutual aid partners today on numerous brush and field fires, as well as a barn and large field fire in Longwood Fire Company area. During these incidents, numerous other large scale incidents involving companies from all over the tri-county area and neighboring states of Deleware and Maryland were ongoing in the county. The incidents were efficiently mitigated as a result of the excellent teamwork between the Chester County Departmen...t of Emergency Services telecommunications staff, and the plethora of personnel from all responding agencies involved with today’s incidents. We would especially like to recognize former EMS Captain, Telecomunicator Catren, as well as the rest of her platoon for their great work today. The voices on the other side of the radio are often forgetten when it comes to recognizing hard work and dedication. Please let this serve as a reminder that Chester County and the rest of the SE Pennsylvania area remains under a Red Flag Warning until 1700hrs tomorrow. Tonight’s training consisted of confined space awareness with the addition of artificial smoke and darkness to simulate fire conditions. Our thanks to East Brandywine Fire Company for allowing us to use their building prop tonight.

August brought almost 200 emergency calls across East Whiteland, Charlestown, and other surrounding municipalities.

Emergencies can strike at any time, anywhere. Create an emergency kit at home so that when an emergency strikes, you're prepared.

19 years ago, our nation was attacked and devastated on this day, and our lives changed seemingly overnight. Give pause and remember that the effects of 9/11 are still being felt 19 years later. 19 years of missed weddings, high school graduations, proms, the first day of kindergarten, and sports tournaments. 19 years of an empty seat at Thanksgiving, one less glass of champagne being handed out on New Years, and one less person to watch the fourth of July fireworks with. First Responders from Ground Zero are still grappling with medical issues attributed to that day. Take a moment and reflect on that and never forget.
