The summer of 2021 is going to be a busy one in downtown Edinboro. See images for details of the projects happening in town, including the completion of the 6N/99 intersection PennDOT project. Borough residents, business owners, customers, and visitors, we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding this summer. We know the completion of these projects won't be particularly enjoyable, but it will all be worth it in the end.

Merry Christmas! Wow Borough, you nailed it! If you haven’t had a chance to look at these FABULOUS windows with your own eyes, you definitely want to plan a t...rip to the Borough within the next few days. Sarah Schoolcraft, Lindsay Lewis, and the rest of the Borough staff worked hard on this amazing display of the Grinch- (I heard the Advent window organizer Andrea Opple also helped as well!). Thank you for the phenomenal windows, you surely outdid yourself! Yes, there is no easy way to put it - the year 2020 stank! Or as Dr Seuss would say: STINK STANK STUNK; and yet, at the same time, it also brought out the best in us. Despite COVID-19, our community came together, and people in Edinboro brought light into the darkness. We would like to express a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the participants of the advent window project and the volunteers who made this fun project happen. Thank you for giving us a little surprise to look forward to each night during these challenging times, and brightening our day or should we say illuminating our night? And thank you, Edinboro residents, for visiting our windows, and for helping us make this a December to Remember, by spreading joy during these hard times. Merry Christmas, everyone! The windows will be lighted every night from dusk until at least 10pm, until New Year, so please see them all.

December 8th Greater Erie Dental surprised us yesterday with an adorable picture of Santa going to the dentist. The display was painted by Edinboro University s...tudent, Kelsey Wagner. You know Santa will need a good tooth cleaning and possibly even work on some cavities after eating all these cookies on Christmas eve, while visiting kids all over the world. Rumor has it, he sees Dr. Andryc for it There was a festive crowd who joined in the opening event, and Dr. Andryc’s children handed out electric toothbrushes thank you, what a great idea! Tonight’s window will be opened at 6pm by the Stoll Family at 228 Hickory Street. Come join us!

December 7th Yesterday’s two window displays didn’t disappoint. This year’s holiday season with all these beautiful windows is surely turning into a December to... Remember! R & S Sports surprised us all with peaceful Christmas angels, created by Susan Vidas. At the same time, George and Penny Gast unwrapped their window, revealing a stunning Nativity scene. Friends and neighbors joined the opening (wearing masks, of course), while enjoying cider and cookies. Thank you, Penny and George, for your hospitality, it was lovely and very festive. Have we made you curious? Join us tonight, when Greater Erie Dental at 204 W Plum Street unwraps their window at 6pm.

The Edinboro Borough Police Department would like to remind drivers of the laws pertaining to "Meeting or Overtaking a School Bus." It is a very different type of year for everyone, particularly our local schools. School buses are running different schedules, picking up and dropping off kids all day long. We are experiencing a large amount of violations related to "Meeting or Overtaking a School Bus." For the safety of the kids, please slow down and be prepared to stop when you see the amber lights of a school bus. The red signal lights and the side "stop" signal arms will be activated shortly after and kids will be departing or getting on the bus. Please do not attempt to speed up when seeing the amber lights. School buses are equipped with cameras and your actions will be recorded.

December 6th We had a nice crowd joining us for yesterday’s window opening, and it was so worth it! Edinboro Chocolaterie, you absolutely outdid yourself with t...his gorgeous window! If you haven’t already, come downtown and check out this beautiful Gingerbread house, created by Edinboro’s Sarah Schoolcraft and Rose Baker, two artists who lead the Public Arts Council of Edinboro. You can see them peeking out from their creation in one picture. What a delightful and adorable window, so perfect for this sweet chocolate store. Edinboro Chocolaterie is definitely a family business, as you can see from the 'family portrait' in front. Come join in the cheer as we unwrap two more windows at 6pm tonight: R & S Sports, 111 Meadville Street George and Penny Gast, 210 Elm Street George and Penny will be serving cider and cookies during their unwrapping event at 6. Please be considerate and wear your masks. For those who have lost track of which windows are open already and illuminated from at least 6 to 10pm every night. December 5th Last night, Edward Jones surprised us with another beautiful Christmas tree and an elf. A small group was waiting in front as the window was unve...iled. Check out the details and see if you can spot the elf! Isn’t the window pretty? Tonight’s window opening will be at Edinboro Chocolaterie, on 114 Erie Street. Be there at 6pm sharp, for the unwrapping event. Visitors can expect a sweet treat, and a visual feast. Trust us, you don’t want to miss this window!

Borough residents: with the expiration of our current trash hauling contract at the end of the year, you will no longer be able to place glass at your curb for recycling. However, we already have a solution in place! At the wastewater treatment plant on Water Street, we now have a Bayfront Glass, LLC collection station, open M-F 7am-3:30pm and Saturdays 7-11am. While this service is intended for Borough residents, we understand that others will use it, so please be considerate and do not abuse the service. Please do not place anything other than glass in the receptacles and please be respectful of the wastewater plant property!

Helping friends plan out a Living Advent Calendar. See below for details! Hello Edinboro Community, we need your help! For many of us, COVID has been a dark an...d hard time; we have all experienced how hard it is to be isolated at home, and at the same time, learnt just how much we appreciate a chance to get outside, and how much we miss being social and being part of a community. Many of you are probably familiar with the teddy bears or Easter Eggs that were displayed in numerous windows during the lockdown. They surely sweetened our walks, and we loved seeing all the cute displays whenever we explored neighborhoods. Winter and December still seem far away, especially with the beautiful fall we have been experiencing this year. But we know the Christmas season will be here faster than we know it. What if we, as a community did something to mark this year as special, and illuminated beautifully decorated windows during December, lightening up Edinboro? Wouldn’t it be fun to go out in our neighborhoods, and downtown, to explore pretty, decorated windows? What if we, as a community, created a living Advent calendar? You may be familiar with paper Advent calendars, which have a little punch-out door for each of the days between Dec 1st and Christmas. When opened, the doors reveal a star, angel, toy or other Christmas-related image. The Living Advent calendar takes this concept one step further; in Europe, for centuries, communities have turned their houses and businesses into life-sized calendars. Each night from December 1st until Christmas, businesses or residents reveal and illuminate a specially decorated window. It starts with one single window on December 1st, then a new window on December 2nd, and then every day until Christmas. Once revealed, each window remains illuminated throughout December. Hopefully, this will create excitement each day and light up Edinboro for the Christmas season. The goal is to make it interesting for people to explore the town and find the beautiful windows. The Advents windows should not break your budget, but should be creative, peaceful, and reflective of the season. Are you interested? To sign up, and for any questions you may have, please contact Andrea Opple [email protected] Phone: 425-345-5092 and Holly Palmer [email protected], Phone 814-397-9703. If you need help with ideas, or don’t have a creative hand, but would still love to illuminate an Advent window, reach out. We are here for you and can either help you decorate or get you in touch with someone who is happy to create a window for you. We look forward to a lot of participation. Let’s illuminate Edinboro with beautiful Advent windows, and make this Christmas season extra special.
