Dogs wake you before you want to get up in the morning. Their noses are cold. They beg. They bark. They wimper. Sometimes they smell funny. They want to lick your face after they eat things you wouldn't want to step in barefoot. They sleep alot. Dogs are dogs. They listen patiently, often with an inquisitive look. They can't wait to see you first thing after they wake up. They depend on you for food, shelter and affection. They will love you from their first breath to their ...last. The next couple of weeks hold opportunities to help out our dog and cat friends by participating in events benefiting the True Friends Animal Welfare Center. Check out the Wanderlist on the 4th for a pre-tailgate party. On the 11th, the Windsor Whip Works Art Center, located in Windsor, NY is hosting a Canine/Feline Art Show to benefit The Center and it's furry clients. Whether or not we have opposing thumbs, or walk on two legs or four, we all depend upon each other to enrich each other's lives!

By this time of year, sometimes, Winter has already come hard and fast causing us to wonder how we'll ever dig out of so much snow, and if Spring will ever get here. Sometimes it seems as if Winter never really set in, making it difficult to tell if the "January Thaw" will continue until the groundhog makes his prediction, or if seasonal weather is just around the corner. Thankfully, the crew at Elk has been doing an outstanding job capitalizing on all snowmaking opportunitie...s and keeping the mountain in better shape than one would think given the relatively balmy temps. Entertainment at Stone Bridge and Chet's Place gives us places to gather with like minded souls to listen to music, and philosophize about when the snow will really come. And if disinclined to ponder the weather, enjoy each other's company while considering the quote below from Wikpedia. East Meets West Route 6 Heritage Exhibition Presented by: The Main Street Gallery - A project of The Greater Carbondale COC. On October 19, the PA Route 6 Artisan Trail Traveling Exhibit will be transported to the Carbondale region, where it will be installed in three separate locations: the Ben-Mar Restaurant, the Cozy Corner Café, and the local YMCA. The display will be under the auspices of the Main Street Gallery and its Director, Danielle Cady. A public opening will occur at these locations on Friday, October 21. Place Your Pierogie Order The Browndale Fire Co. will sell potato and cheese pierogies made by Little Spuds Homemade Gourmet Pierogies. Price is $6 per dozen. Pick up frozen pierogies on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 6 to 7 p.m. at the Browndale Fire Station on Route 247 or by appointment. Proceeds will benefit the fire company.
