Origins of April Fools' Day Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called April fools. These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as poisson d’avril (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.

Ellen residents were the lucky recipients of many wonderful gifts including from the Boy Scouts, Vets groups, families, school groups, local business and organizations and our own Tammy S., Medical Records Manager and independent Avon representative. Tammy accepted donations from folks in our community and assembled goodie bags for each resident. Thanks Tammy!

Activity staff worked the halls today with the bar cart to pass out some holiday cheer. Residents enjoyed cream puffs and sparkling grape juice and fine champagne! A very happy new year to everyone! #PHCACares

For 4 years now the staff at Ellen volunteer to sponsor a resident for our "Secret Santa" day. Christmas 2020 did not disappoint as every single resident in the facility enjoyed receiving a gift from Santa himself (aka Jerry P.) What a fun time we had passing them all out! #PHCACares

Our campus was alive with the sound of music when Ms. Rebecca P. and her 10th grade Health Occupations Class stopped by to carol for the residents. The group meandered around the sidewalk circling the building and residents opened their windows a crack to hear them sing! thanks for stopping by!
