In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we are sharing the stories of the many prominent women laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. #TodayIRemember U.S. Army ...Maj. Marie Therese Rossi. During the Persian Gulf War (1990-1991), Maj. Rossi became the first American female combat commander to fly into battle. A helicopter pilot, she commanded a CH-47 Chinook helicopter company deployed to Saudi Arabia. She was killed in a helicopter crash on March 1, 1991, the day after a ceasefire agreement ended Operation Desert Storm. She is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Section 8.
