Spring Break Day Camp is a wrap, and we had a BLAST! This group was by far one of the best groups we have seen and a great way to kick in our 2021 season! We took our week long Summer Day Camp program and crammed it all into four days for a long weekend. And, we will be doing it all over again next weekend for homeschoolers! There are spots still available for Friday, April 9th thru Monday, April 12th. Please contact the page for details. This weekends’ camp was fully im...mersive. Campers learned the value of teamwork and working together to quickly complete the work involved with caring for horses, feeding, watering and, of course, mucking the stalls. Campers assisted with turning horses out to pasture, learning how to safely lead rope these 1200 lb animals. We learned how to groom horses and held classes on parts of the horses, how we tell the age of horses by looking at their teeth, picking hooves and parts of hooves, what horses can and cannot eat, digestive system and other fun facts about horses. When the work was complete, we had other activities such as painting horseshoes, a scavenger hunt (with Easter Eggs) and of course, lots of riding! All Campers start off riding bareback and are given the chance to ride several horses with no saddle. Riding bareback allows a better feel for the horse and forces the rider to concentrate more on posture and balance. After learning about saddles, Campers learn how to saddle a horse and are given the opportunity to ride several horses with saddles. By the last day, each camper has ridden quite a few horses with and without saddle and gets to choose which horse they would like to ride, bareback or with saddle, at their graduation show where they get to show off their new horseback riding skills in front of their guests on a western dressage obstacle course of the campers’ own design culminating in the receipt of personalized Certificates of Completion. We absolutely Love being able to teach good horsemanship to children local to Lycoming County, PA. The greatest reward is having children come up to us all week long telling us how much they love horses and how much fun they are having with us learning about horses. It is just as rewarding hearing stories from parents telling us, ‘this is ALL my child talks about, you guys are great! We look forward to keeping this up all Summer long and hope your child will join us! They will Love it! No experience Necessary.

A little behind the scenes at Elysian Fields Equestrian Center. If you follow Heroes Helping Horses Horses Healing Heroes you will often see Rob’s point of view from his 23 years of service in the Military. Rob says there are two simple roles in the military. There is Infantry and infantry support. Here on the farm, it is not much different. There are the horses ,and the horse’s support. Our horses are our heroes and we take care of them very well. With caring for and ...Continue reading
