Way to go Ohio Geologists! We've been monitoring here in Northeastern PA thinking the same thing that can be done with our mine pools since around 2012. Investments need to be made to further study these mine pools that we are working on if we want to truly know the extent, depths, constant temperatures, and storage capacity for the future development of mine pool geothermal projects. We continue to monitor mine pools and available boreholes as funding allows us to. We can imagine a lesser dependency on the electrical grid and a greater dependency on our mine pools that are still a mystery and lie beneath our feet without too many people paying too much attention to the possibilities of the value of the groundwater mine pool complexes.

Is it possible that the revived CCC could bring a new wave of jobs to the mining-impacted regions of Appalachia that are in need of monitoring, riparian stream corridor plantings, tree plantings, reforestation projects, streambank stabilization projects, AMD monitoring, illegal dumpsite cleanups, community garden projects, and environmental education programs and projects that are locally-based? It could...

EPCAMR has completed the Huntsville Creek Coldwater Conservation Plan, which also includes the Lower Toby Creek Watershed, and submitted it to the PA Council of Trout Unlimited. Previously, we completed the Upper Toby Creek Coldwater Conservation Plan, and now have over 200 recommendations for future implementation by any number of partners that we've developed in the Back Mountain and throughout the Wyoming Valley. Feel free to follow the link to access BOTH plans and see th...e thorough and comprehensive fieldwork, culvert assessments, water quality monitoring, visual and biological stream habitat assessments, electroshocking surveys, and streambank assessments were completed by our Staff. If you ever wanted to know about the Toby Creek watershed and it's history and state of the environment, these are the plans and documentation for you to become familiar with. http://epcamr.org//w/wyoming-valley-watersheds/toby-creek/ See more

A presentation made today to Rotarians south of the Cumberland Mountains to club members of a local Rotary was well received despite a minor technical live video glitch. Thankfully the feature in Microsoft Teams allowed for the sharing of our screen to be able to direct viewers to a half of dozen websites, complete with photos and project summaries and successes of EPCAMR and our Coalition partners. Local project suggestions were provided to the Club by our Executive Director after he had done a cursory overview of the landscape, public spaces, trails, and watersheds around Woodstock, GA that were greatly appreciated.

This is a great continuation of yet another positive step that we wish others River Basin Commissions would take across PA, because the Chesapeake Bay isn’t the only Bay in America that is impacted by AMD that can benefit from this incentive and innovative approach to cleaning up our impaired waterways and leveraging other sources of funding. We'll be providing comments as well to ensure that the AMD is going to be treated for the long-term. We look forward to working with companies interested in pursuing some of the criteria that has been put forth by the SRBC. We’ve already done numerous consumptive use and underground mine pool hydrogeological investigations in partnership with the Susquehanna River Basin Commission.

We hope our political leaders as listening and reading the LTEs. With the right federal resources, NEPA can build a 21st century PA where family-sustaining wages and benefits are available and responsible employers help protect and support the reclamation and remediation of the environment around their work facilities, and the health of the people who live in it. This vision is spelled out in a new framework called ReImagine Appalachia, already endorsed by 80 economic, civic and environmental organizations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky, including my organization, (EPCAMR) that has been working throughout NE and NC PA’s coalfields in Northern Appalachia for over 25 years.

Here’s some great photos of the Jeddo Mine AMD Tunnel in the Conyngham Valley and some great background information and links to resources on the Nescopeck Creek provided by EPCAMR. An EPCAMR volunteer, Ryan Sotelo, who’s always willing to help us out provided these shots.

We are excited to announce that with the help of our Stewards VISTA, we have just applied for a Mountain Dew Outdoor Grant of $5,000! If we receive it, it will go towards purchasing outdoor education resources which can be borrowed for a nominal fee by families! Some of what we will have in store will be nature identification guides as well as binoculars and animal track molds. We also are striving to create a virtual hiking platform for those days where you just can't get outside! #conservation #environmentaleducation #stewardsip

We're going back to finish the job we started! Fall is in the air! The leaves are falling and are as colorful as they are going to get. With them falling, we will be able to see the remaining piles of trash around town. There is not much left. We can take care of the historic dumping once and for all this year and plan for our big beautification and apple tree planting in the Spring of 2021.
