Please Help! Our founding partner and CEO, Tom Groves, has always emphasized service and advocacy as core values among the Equinox team. Today, he and his wife Haydemar, along with their family, friends, and colleagues, are advocating for their daughter, Sofia, and the many others in our local community that rely on blood, plasma and platelet donations for survival. Earlier this year, Sofia slipped into a coma after suffering a serious Lupus attack that caused blood clots in ...the Venus Sinus veins in her head. Gratefully, she is now progressing in her recovery, but at times requires emergency blood transfusions to combat sudden drops in her platelets, plasma, and red blood cells. As highlighted on the front page of the 2/21 edition of The Morning Call, blood supplies in the area are critically low, with weather and COVID compounding the challenges blood banks face in holding donation drives. As Tom said, Sofia’s most recent transfusion really drove home the importance of donating blood at this crucial time. With all the technology we have to save a life, it is absolutely useless if we have no blood supplies to replenish those who need blood, plasma and platelets in emergency situations like Sofia’s.
