All, We are happy to announce that longsword classes will resume on September 6th at 3pm at Fun Fitness! Same time, same place! Thanks to everyone who has been patient with us at Steelhead while we address the rising concerns surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. We at Steelhead have previously put a halt to classes in an attempt to keep ourselves and all of our teammates safe and healthy. In order to help us continue practicing in a safe and controlled environment it is... imperative to bring and wear a facemask and it is recommended to bring a form of hand sanitizer. With covid cases on the rise and us all doing our parts to stay safe it is important that we remember we can and should continue to practice and train at home during this time. Swords can be substituted with broom sticks A pell can be made with 2x4's... The Steelhead team can and will happily send you resources for training equipment or building supplies for a pell all you need to do is reach out to one of us for help.

Due to the recent spike of covid cases in our area, we will be suspending classes again until things are safer. We cannot confidently tell you when that will be, but you will know more as we do. Hello again everyone! Just a reminder, classes are resuming this sunday, July 26th, from 3-5pm at Fun Fitness, 7870 W Ridge Rd, Fairview, PA 16415. Please try to arrive by 2:30 if possible, as we have a few things to go over. Remember, masks ARE required and they WILL be worn properly (covering the mouth AND nose). Furthermore, we will be using a non-contact thermometer to check your temperature before class. If you have a fever, we will have to send you home for the time bei...ng. As you've probably heard countless times recently, if you have experienced a fever, lack of smell or taste, or been exposed to anyone exhibiting these symptoms/diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days, please stay home. No grappling. No sharing equipment (except swords that are sanitized before and after swapping). Exceptions are made for members of the same household who are in close contact with each other anyway. In other news, as we move forward with becoming a non-profit, allow me to introduce our provisional board members! Nick Chiappazzi - President Drew Lackovic - Treasurer Charissa Senteney - Secretary Sue Lackovic - Junior Board Member Chris Burke - Junior Board Member Ken Martin - Director These positions are temporary. After we settle things out, we will hold elections in October where any active members can run for these positions in the form of 1-year terms, with the exception being director, who is to be appointed by the board. How will this affect you? The club is structuring itself to ensure its stable position as a member of both the Erie and HEMA communities as members and leaders come and go. Active members will be able to vote on the changes that take place and take this school in a direction we are all happy with. In the VERY near future, your daily experiences will only be changed by having a director overseeing day-to-day things, which for now is sign-ins and temperature checks. Additionally, all members will be required to sign a Code of Conduct, which I will be going over with everyone at once to save time. I will be making online copies available for anyone who wants them after signing. This also goes for our bylaws after we approve them together. Finally, this Sunday we will also discuss the return of weeknight meetings! A fight night! Additional classes! Woo! Stay tuned! Questions? Comments? Concerns? Don't hesitate to reach out! Everyone's first fights after lockdown :D

As of today, we plan on resuming classes in one month, on Sunday July 26th. This is subject to change based on spikes in COVID-19 cases, and safety restrictions required by federal, state, and local governments. How will our classes be affected? - No dues will be charged for the month of July. Dues will be collected for August.... - Masks WILL be required in class, they must cover the nose. We know it is getting hot, we know these are uncomfortable, but we will wear them for the sake of our small HEMA family, and our community at large. Depending on the weather, we will likely have shorter matches when sparring in the heat. - We will NOT be grappling for the time being. - We would like to avoid equipment sharing. If necessary, I will have disinfectant on hand for words and whatnot, but gloves, helmets, jackets, etc, will not clean very easily or quickly during class time. - We will maintain distance between students as much as possible. - We will forgo the traditional HEMA hug until things get better. this one hurts me the most. If you have ANY concerns, please let us know. It is totally understandable if some of you do not return to class just yet. We will be here, take your time. We hope to see you all again soon! If you've been training, good! If not, that's okay! Times have been stressful and we all handle it differently. Hopefully now we can get back to it. Thank you all for your patience and dedication to our club!

With Erie County moving to Green Phase the instructors and leaders of Steelhead have decided to forgo starting classes until we as a community have had time to adapt to a new normal way of life. Please be patient as we make changes to our life and inevitably the changes that will be made so that everyone can learn in a safe and healthy environment. Look for classes and meetings to begin again towards the end of July.
