Evangelical Seminary 11.05.2021

2020 has been a strange and challenging year for so many of us, but thanks to your prayers and your support, the work of Evangelical continues to expand as we close another excellent year. Normally at our annual banquet we take time to recognize a few members of our community whose contributions have gone above and beyond in the past year. This year, we made the decision to cancel the banquet during the pandemic, but we would still like publicly thank the winners of our 2020 ...Friends of Evangelical Award. Click the link below to see this year's winners! https://evangelical.edu/friends-of-evangelical-2020-award-/

In a polarized world, what is the Church to do? Unfortunately, we have contributed to the polarization and thus become even more divided ourselves. But what if this divisive cultural climate is actually a wonderful opportunity to show the world (and ourselves) what true one-ness can look like? That's the question that Dr. Mike Dittman takes up in this powerful article. Dr. Dittman mentors the Missional Theology track in our Doctor of Theology program and Director of National Ministries for the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Today, July 1, is a big day for Evangelical Seminary. Today is the formal start of our partnership with Sioux Falls Seminary, Taylor Seminary, Biblical Life Institute and other participating schools and ministries in what is called the Kairos network. Together, we're working to change how Christians are formed and prepared for service in God's kingdom, in ways that are affordable, accessible, relevant, and faithful to Christ. We'll keep you informed as we move forward in this relationship in the coming months and years. And thanks for continuing to encourage and support God's good work here!

If there's anything we've learned in this generation about spreading the good news of Jesus, it's that arguments appealing to reason must be accompanied by lives transformed. And that's why today we honor Ravi Zacharias, this generation's most influential apologist for the Christian faith, for while his intellect provided a coherent defense for believing, his humility and grace provided evidence of the fruit of the Spirit. We saw that beautiful blend of logic and spirit when he spoke at our Friends of Evangelical Banquet a few years ago. And that's the motive behind the new "Next Generation Apologetics" track in our Doctor of Theology program, led by a member of Ravi's team. Ravi passed away on Tuesday, sadly, and so we join our voices with so many others to say thanks for a life well lived for Christ.

With countless people around the world, we continue in prayer for our esteemed colleague Ravi Zacharias, whose gospel ministry has deeply touched and inspired many of us here at Evangelical Seminary. RZIM’s partnership with us in launching our new ThD apologetics track this fall has been a tremendous source of wisdom and encouragement for us, and we are grateful for it. We are most grateful, however, for who Ravi is and how he portrays so well the beauty, truth, and goodness of God, in whose image he is made.

We're excited to share more examples of the important work our alums are doing in the community during the current health crisis. Susan Horst and Joyce Martin, both graduates from Evangelical's Master of Divinity program, are chaplains at Penn State Health St Joseph in Reading. (Featured 1st and 3rd from left in the image below).
