The babies just keep coming! Thank goodness tho our boy streak has been broken well, added to and THEN broken! Kidding season hasn’t started as smoothly for us as some years, with our herd queen having a difficult late pregnancy. It was even more concerning when one of our favorite does and best milkers, Lily, starting showing signs of toxemia. An imbalance in caloric needs for momma and baby, toxemia can kill a doe in half a day if not treated. Unfortunately, there’s no qu...ick fix. What you can do is give supplemental calories, fluids and sweets multiple times a day to try to keep the momma in balance until kidding. So for the past 2 days Lily has had a special milkshake of electrolytes and glucose brought to her every 3 hours. Now we can see why she was having such a strain on her resources! Quads! 2 of each! Girls on the left, boys on the right. We expect Lily to be feeling much better now! She even beat Justice’s kid weight at 27.8lbs of babies See more

The ball streak continues Our sweet ewe, Molly, needed a little help this morning getting this massive fella out. By ‘a little help’ I actually mean ALOT of pulling. I don’t think this big boy wanted to come out lol Since he’s so close in age to our newest triplet ram lambs we decided to continue with their name theme and call him FUM.

Our newest baby is a bouncing bovine boy! Well, ok not bouncing yet, he’s only about 30 minutes old, but he’ll get there! Butter dropped this handsome little man and was ready for the milk parlor Sometimes a punny name is just too good so this jersey fella is named Bulloney He’ll be looking for new pastures to roam as a bottle calf so if anyone local is interested send us a pm! He wont be ready to go for at least a week so he can get plenty of that luscious colostrum from his momma

OH! THESE TWO STINKERS! Good Thursday morning friends. Jackie and Georgie have become our new clocks. Every four hours we hear little peeps of Hey I’m hungry. Jackie gets 8-10 ounces and Georgie 1-6. Then they dance a bit and settle down for a nap. It’s been a quiet few days, Justice gave us 3 bucklings and looks like we’ll have another birth today. Sheep as well are dropping babies. I think everyone, humans that is, are trying to conserve energy in anticipation. Kate... and Abbey are getting up through the night checking on soon to be moms. Goat, sheep and cow. Butter the Jersey is within her due date span so there’s another worry. I feel extreme blessed that these young women take care of 99.9% of the chores and I’m very proud of them. I will say that occasionally I miss the hands on with the animals, but I have more than enough other projects to keep me busy. Heading out to work on the garage repurpose, will keep you posted. Take care, enjoy your day and as always.... Keep calm and appreciate

Turns out today is a triplet boys kind of day Schmoe, the ewe, followed Justice’s suit with a handsome set of lads: Fe, Fi and Fo. All I can say is, please don’t let Butter the cow calve today!!!!

It’s important to have a fearless kitten helper, although Pail might be a little TOO brave...

Monday Milker Spotlight Suzanne’s Favorite Goat Now if you have ever been here to the farm to visit us, there’s a 100% chance that this doe was specifically pointed out to you. This big bodied caramel lady is called Beauty, for obvious reasons. We didnt know that she would turn into such a stunner when we bought her as a baby 7 years ago but lucky for us she certainley turned into her name.... We went aways away for this girl, all the way to Sharon Springs NY! A certain famous farm run by a set of fellas sold us this doe as a little bottle baby. We have made several of those 6 hour trips to pick out new fabulous genetics but this, in my opinion, is our greatest selection! Beauty, in both looks and personality, is the sweetest doe you could ever meet! She is quiet and calm, gentle and sweet, loving and lovable. There’s no need to look for her in our herd, she quickly finds any visitors and requests lots of face, neck and back pets. Her only bad habit is that she only seems to produce male kids. We’ve only gotten one doe kid in 7 years! Obviously, we still have that doe kid, Summer, and she is as lovely as her mother. As our Beauty gets older, we are holding out hope for her to have another little girl My mom, Suzanne, and Beauty have a special connection. Something about that wide barrel body and big brown eyes maybe but Beauty is always the first doe she sets off to find when helping in the doe barn. It doesnt take long before the two of them are sitting off by one of the long troughs having very important conversations and beard strokings. Both are very special ladies and we love them See more

Sooooo, we found an extra surprise little guy snuggling with the buck master herself, Mama Justice After helping our herd queen deliver her other two sons, I checked. I double checked. I triple CHECKED! And somehow this fella evaded me. Justice is definitely feeling more like herself today with the 22lbs of kids out of her!

Monday Evening Milker Spotlight As we get farther and farther into our milking doe introductions, I dont want you to think that we’ve done all of our favorites and only have the riff raff left! The order is chosen mostly by whichever goat takes the prettiest picture when we’re doing our impromptu pasture photo shoots. Unfortunately for some, flattering pictures don’t come naturally. Our doe for today is a lovely doe with a sweethearts soul and absolutely zero talent for ta...king pictures. Meet Elise! She shares my middle name but wasn’t named after it. She is one of the plainer does in the herd, with a brown coat and white accents, but luckily, she loves to have very colorful babies! Janelle, from a previous milker spotlight, is her baby from last year and we couldnt be happier with the kids she produces. Elise is not in our top milk production bracket but she is the sweetest and gentlest lady you’ll ever meet. Elise’s favorite thing in the whole world is to sniff faces. It can be a little daunting if you’ve never been snoofed by a goat but she never licks or bites! All you have to do is close your eyes, lean down to her eye level and Elise will give your face a well snuffled once over and then be on her way. I like to think of it as a goaty blessing See more

Happy to say we are all back at your Sunday markets this weekend! Less happy to look at the forecast but a little rain didnt stop us from bringing all of our classic chevres out, plus a few favorite special flavors and a BRAND NEW ONE! Don’t let our pun-ny name fool you, the only goat in this chevre is from our creamy goats milk! Added to it is a zippy ranch mix and a sweet chili sauce called Gochujang. So if you’re looking for a creamy ranch dip with a touch of sweetness an...d spice plus an extra smidge of UMAMI flavor, this chevre is for you! It’s our last Sunday before Halloween so now’s a good time to grab some cheesy treats to snack on. Don’t let the rain stop you from coming out to see us at Berkeley Springs Farmers Market, Westover Farmers Market and Fairlington Farmers Market! If you brave this nasty weather we’ll let you in on a surprise cheese we’ll have with us next week See more

Attention goat lovers! As promised last night, in lieu of a Monday Milker Spotlight, here is our: Tuesday Milker Showcase This week we are featuring a favorite of a favorite! That is to say, this pretty girl Garnet is the twin sister to Kate’s favorite troublemaker, Ruby. Garnet and Ruby are inseparable, and can often be found cuddling together under a hay rack (which is prime real estate in the goat barn)!... Now, it wouldn’t be fair to compare Garnet to Ruby (the Farm Spirit who has never been contained by fence nor expectation), but if you did, you would not be disappointed by Garnet’s personality. She is a quiet, gentle soul, and would stand by you for hours if she thought you would keep petting her and scratching her head. Perhaps the best part about Garnet is the resemblance she has to her namesake and granddaddy-buck, Granite, who will always hold a special place in our hearts

Due to a busy Monday and an already lovely post by our facefam momma, Suzanne, we are post poning our Monday Milker Spotlight for a Tuesday Milker Showcase

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS, I HAVE MISSED YOU SO 2 2/2 weeks I started feeling unwell, tired and weak. I went to market because I love it so and when I got home, I collapsed. The next day I had trouble walking and fell constantly. The neurologist said that it was exhaustion and that I was having seizures at night that were within my body and not detected by me or anyone around me. Leave it to me to have a weird illness. Fast forward to today, the first day that I slept all nigh...t, was up before the family and almost feel normal. The dr said I should be quiet and aware of how my body feels. Thought processes and memory will slowly return and hopefully soon I can restart my life. I have tests and dr visits scheduled and hope. I have had to schedule many trips and visits and will be rescheduling as soon as the dr. allows. Thru all this craziness my family was amazing. I wasn’t allowed to do anything. I mean nothing. They knew after the flush of falls, I would try to do more. I always had my phone with me and I remember that old advertisement I’ve fallen and can’t get up. This week I have seen a ton of improvement and dressed myself for the first time that I can remember. Some things like memory will take longer, but I’m on my way. There is no way that I could have gotten this far without family, and that includes you, Abbey. Alex being in Seattle has called everyday and friends kept close touch. So what I’m saying? Always Keep calm and have hope

Sad news for our Sunday cheese lovers, we’ll be missing all 3 of our markets tomorrow. Berkeley Springs Farmers Market, Fairlington Farmers Market and Westover Farmers Market. Nothing to be concerned about, we are all doing well here on the farm but a stomach bug is making it’s way through our household. In the public is not the place to be when sick, especially this year! So while it is not what we want to do, everyone’s health is paramount to us so we’ll be staying home and taking it easy. This will be our first Sunday in a few seasons where we’ll be missing all of our Sunday markets. Hopefully all of our Sunday facefam can forgive us! We promise plenty of special chevre flavors the following Sunday!

Faerie Springs Farm 08.07.2020

Special callout post for all of our Middletown Facefam!! Since tomorrow is the very last Middletown Farmers' Market of this year, is there any particular special chevre flavor you’d like us to have? We’re welcoming requests!

Our mondays keep being busy but we still didnt forget our Monday Milker Spotlight Meet a perfect lovable older lady, Amber! We havent had her long but she has stolen all of our hearts with her gentle eyes and sweet head nuzzles. Let’s be honest, her two adorable teefers that stick out make her all the more precious! She’s not the oldest girl in our herd but some aggressive scraping of her teeth against a hard salt lick left her with only 2 front ones remaining.... Luckily she has plenty of razor sharp back grinder teeth left to get her nutrients with! She is our most exciting breeding of this upcoming year because she has the best pedigree we’ve ever brought into the herd. For probably the first time ever, we’re asking for her to give us a buck kid! Although a boy and a girl would be even nicer See more
