In addition to fighting for his fans, #Hopkins will be fighting for charity as he has committed to donating one dollar from each ticket sold to three select charities. Make-A-Wish Foundation tm(registered) of #Philadelphia & susquehanna Valley, to ......which Hopkins will donate in memory of Shaun Negler, one of his biggest fans, whose last wish was to attend #Hopkins' fight against #JoeCalzaghe before succumbing to brain cancer in late 2008 at the age of 18, will be one bene...ficiary. The second recipient of the fight's proceeds will be The Hero Thrill show, an annual day of events designed to raise money for the education of relatives of deceased police and fire personnel killed in the line of duty while protecting Philadelphia. The ring exploits of Bernard Hopkins are pretty much widely known, Middleweight world champion for over a decade, and then when everyone thought that he was ready for the old folks home he moved up to light-heavyweight and spent a good few years frustrating the best 175 pounders despite being in his 40s. Despite all his ring accomplishments, he remains a marmite figure in the sport, some love him others hate him. In many ways, it could be said that he is still very underrat...ed with most people remembering him for his longevity rather than being an 'outstanding' world champion. His reign as world middleweight champion especially often seems to be glossed over and he seldom seems to be mentioned as one of the greatest middleweights of all time. So my question is whereabouts amongst the ring greats do you rank Hopkins? especially as a middleweight. Was he an all-time great middleweight champion, or just a good fighter who profited from the increasingly shallow talent waters which we see in modern boxing. Should he be remembered mainly for winning world titles in his 40s or as one of the best ever middleweights to pull on the gloves. And how much do his accomplishments at 175 pounds while in his early to late 40s, raise him above the average 'champion'. Was Hopkins one of the last true old school 'greats' that we will see.
