We are obsessed with this stuff. It’s a sturdy midweight, great for jackets, pinafores, home projects, and bags. This is the fabric that taught me about the magic of chartreuse and teal. Wow. Firecracker is making the transition to mainly sourcing sustainably and ethically manufactured natural fi...ber fabrics, with a focus on deadstock. We will be phasing out fabrics that are especially harsh to produce, such as new rayon products, and are excited to promote mindful and ethical practices amongst our lovely community of makers. This means that we will have to miss out on some of the more trendy lines, which is definitely hard, but this work must be done. Wanting to support the local community and keep price points down has made it easy to place orders that I am not proud of. There have been many moments where I, as the owner, was ashamed to be a part of this industry so we’re going to do what we can to make it right. Thank you as always for your support! Hot tips for newbies: Deadstock is a word used to describe fabric that has been over-produced or is no longer needed by designers and manufacturers. The trick is finding actual deadstock, as a lot of fabrics promoted as deadstock are greenwashed. The great thing about Deadstock is that we are potentially saving fabric from landfill, and can typically offer it at a friendly price point. Although we aim not to purchase new synthetic fabrics, we are happy to source synthetic deadstock. We tie-dyed our recent makes using the #jacquardtiedyekits on our website, and we’re loving the results. We all used different tying techniques @maeve.makes employed the traditional rubber band method like a sensible leader; I cultivated chaos and tracked dye through the building; @cloudpinecreative did an impressive accordion fold. Maeve’s #inaritee and my #jonijoggers, both made in our white #twillterry and matching rib, look DYNAMITE together. And the fabric is so comfor...table, you will just want to cuddle up on your cut table (exhibit B). Allison made her shortened #florencedress in our PFD #brusselwasherlinen - and she said watch out - you may want to size down! @maeve.makes finished her #thetop64 in our floral needle corduroy today, and then I immediately tried to steal it. You can’t see the style lines very well here, but let me tell you, it’s SO. ADORABLE. Kind of a painters’ smock vibe. Maeve rounded the side vent corners and made the pockets bigger. We don’t currently have this pattern in stock (should we restock it?), but we have two colorways of this amazing lightweight floral cord! Anyway, we both love this top and I look fo...rward to borrowing it permanently.
