Do you train at the gym yet fail to see any real changes? One thing you may not know yet, is that while exercise is necessary to build muscle and burn fat, the foods you eat are even M O R E important! As a coach, I see too many people eating too much of the wrong foods and too little of the right foods to yield the best results. If you believe that carbs are bad... that you should completely cut out sugars, or that fats will make you fat... you'll want to continue reading ...and learn the TRUTH about food and macronutrients! Here are some F A C T S: Carbohydrates are your main source of - e n e r g y- They are not bad for you, unless you eat too much of them and too much of the wrong ones! When you eat carbs, they are converted into glucose which is converted into fuel, or energy. The excess glucose gets converted into fat and stored. Good carbs vs bad carbs - we have all heard it, there are good carbs and bad carbs. Vegetables and whole grains are the good carbs - think quinoa, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, brown or black rice, sweet potatoes. Bad carbs come in form of sweets or white refined flour - think white bread, anything that has 'added sugars' on the label, cookies, cakes, pastries, etc - Fruits have sugar, but they also have fiber, which is very important for healthy digestion. They bring a natural source of sugar, so they are not bad for you! Fats are V I T A L and necessary in your diet! Focus on healthy fats like nuts, olives, avocados, grassfed butter, olive & coconut oil. Stay away from vegetable & hydrogenated oils, trans fats, Crisco, margarine and chemically processed butters and oils! Protein - amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Protein is necessary for optimal muscle growth and recovery! The more active you are, the more protein your body will need. It not only helps build muscles, repair damaged tissue, burn fat and keep you fuller longer, but it also boosts your metabolism, and helps you with consistent results throughout your fitness journey. There are millions of weight loss programs & products out there, it’s a bit overwhelming Being in this industry for over a decade, I notice most people are looking for the next best thing. The faster they can lose weight, the better. The issue with this kind of mindset? Not caring about the long term effects of some of these diets on the body is extremely detrimental on your health. Short term mindset will get you there in 30 days. Beyond that... you’ll most likely be back ...to where you started Ever ask yourself why fitness & health is a billion dollar industry that fails 99% of the time? Why most people have tried so many different diets that their mind has literally been conditioned to start & quit over and over, to their own detriment? This stuff drives me insane! The diet epidemic is one that I’ve been fighting for years. Being in this industry, I’ve literally seen and heard it all... Insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result. How about changing it up? Here’s a concept that I encourage you to think about: the body doesn’t understand calories, the body understands nutrients. So if you’re just counting calories instead of making calories count, you’re most likely failing your body. Think quality... NOT just quantity. Here’s another concept: for decades now, our foods have been nutritionally depleted due to farming practices and the use of pesticides and fertilizers... even when buying organic. I feel so good today, can you tell?!
