Do trees communicate? Yup, they do! Listen to this amazing interview of Suzanne Simard on NPR's Fresh Air. She just wrote a memoir called the "Mother Tree." You won't look at trees the same after you hear about her research findings!

A robin had its mouth full of nesting material. She was building a nest in the same spot where she had one last year, in a Cornus mas (Carnelian cherry dogwood) near the Barmouth Trailhead. #birds, #green, #cynwyd #cht

Living Mulch: Using Native Plants to Beat the Weeds Thursdays, December 3, 7:15-8:30 PM Shredded bark or hardwood is usually employed to cover the ground between plants, help suppress weeds, and conserve water. This tidiness comes at a cost, however, and can also be harmful in our gardens. Skip the back-breaking work and use plants instead! Low growing native plants can serve the same purpose as mulch, and are more beautiful, and ecologically valuable. Orsi Lazar, owner of Le...arn Do Thrive, a local gardening company, will show us why and how to make the change. A selection of tough, versatile native plants that will fulfill this role in a variety of growing conditions will also be discussed. Payment notes: This event will be presented via Zoom and is free to members, $5 for visitors. Those who wish to create or renew membership may do so via PayPal on the Membership page of this website. Guests and members without a PayPal account should contact Linda Pitt at [email protected] for more information.
We at the Friends of the cynwyd heritage trail wish you a happy and safe holiday.
Consider going a little easy on the fall clean-up this year.
