Phila. Artist Violet Oakley; A Woman of Her Time and Ahead of Her Time! The Tuesday, October 15th meeting of the Historical Society of Fort Washington will be a presentation by Susan Barnes and Christine Thompson both of whom are Docents at the Woodmere Art Museum. The program will begin with a brief introduction to Woodmere Art Museum, its history and its mission, the presentation follows Philadelphian Violet Oakley's personal and artistic life. Violet Oakley's art adorned ...homes, schools, churches and public buildings as she broke new ground for women artists. Please come to hear about her amazing life. Ms. Barnes’ background is as a Special Ed Teacher MontCo, Freelance Writer (author of two books and magazine articles for children) and working as a volunteer for the Phila. Museum of Art and Art Goes To School. Ms. Thompson’s career has been in Social Welfare, Interior Design, with certification in Architectural Color Design, as a Journalist and Editor and in addition, a life time dedication as a Volunteer. The meeting will be held at the Historical Society of Fort Washington’s headquarters at The Clifton House, 473 S. Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington beginning at 7:30 pm and is open to the public.
