Hi All - We are looking to build a working group around reproductive mental health care in Pittsburgh/ Allegheny County. We are specifically interested in brai...nstorming ideas around peer supports or groups. Are you someone who works with families during their childbearing years (professionally or not) and would like to be a part of the working group or stay informed about this topic? If so, please complete this very short form to collect emails. https://forms.gle/JhWJ6h7ZyVJ1Jpjw8 Please share :)
As people are getting vaccinated and things are starting to shift, we realize we still have a journey ahead of us to get through the pandemic. Parents are about to head straight into summer after a year of virtual school and no child care support. With this, we recognize that the hope on the horizon is still far off for many.... If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or lonely we get it! Please join us every Wednesday at 2 pm for a virtual hug! We will talk about everything parenthood and hopefully, even have a few laughs. To learn more or register, contact Cortney at [email protected]! We also highly recommend Out of the Blue, a free community support group for pregnant people and/or newer parents (children under 2)! They meet every Wednesday from 10-11am via zoom. This line from Inclusive Therapists post about Decolonizing Mental Health hit us hard. It is a great piece and everyone should follow them and read read read! We see it over and over again. No one can truly thrive and grow when our society is so far deep into racism. Our society is consumed with fear, anxiety, shame, trauma, and guilt. Systems that were set up to help, end up polarizing and exasperating issues because they were never bui...lt with EVERYONE in mind. The mental health system itself was built by and for white straight cis-gendered men with resources. It was not built for you. Or for me. It was built to control us. It is why we make it our mission to look to break out of these barriers and push for change wherever we can. We at Forward Wellness are aware and are constantly growing to be an anti-racist organization. This means that we constantly checking our own bias and reflecting on areas of growth See more
Do you ever find yourself thinking: I'm unlovable, I'm worthless, I'm helpless? STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF LIKE THAT! We challenge you to say:... I AM LOVABLE. I AM IMPORTANT. I AM STRONG I AM CAPABLE. I BELONG. I AM SAFE NOW. Repeat it. Believe it.
We talked earlier in the week about childhood trauma. So what does healing from that trauma mean? It means you can: relieve unnecessary pain + suffering... improve relationships end the cycle of abuse heal your body and your mind open yourself up to happiness Childhood trauma can often encourage a desire for control. Control over ourselves, others, our environment, and the future. It can manifest in behaviors, such as perfectionism or obsessive thinking. When you unravel that trauma, you can build healthier relationships not only with yourself but with others. It can keep you from suffering unnecessarily and make you a better partner, friend, and parent. Most of all, it opens up so much space for happiness. And you deserve that.
All the feelings. . . Some people told me this would be the case, I just didn't want to believe them. .... . Our eyes our open to the racism and white supremacy of our country. We are so easily manipulated by lies and fear. . . We must keep pushing forward. We must. We must. . . What is your plan to take care of yourselves today - so tomorrow we can keep fighting? #election2020 #keepfighting #mentalhealth #PITTSBURGH
