The Point State Park fountain is on! Walk, run, paddle, or ride the #ThreeRiversHeritageTrail or #ThreeRiversWaterTrail and see this iconic Pittsburgh landmark up close.
The Little Pine Creek Connector is one of the many vital community connection links to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. All communities along the trail and even those not adjacent to the river should have the opportunity to connect within their communities and to the riverfront. We thank Congressman Lamb for recommending this project for funding and highlighting the importance of the trail system in Allegheny County. https://www.post-gazette.com//Lamb-re/stories/202104230106

In 2017, Jessica Newton founded a group for Black women to connect over their love for the outdoors. Today, it has 11 chapters across the U.S. and Canada and has expanded to include more activities. "Being around nature, it's like grounding yourself," Newton says. "That is vital."
Friends raised $923,345 for our trails in 2020! Despite many challenges this year, Friends has been successful in securing funds for trail development and construction in Allegheny County. #ThreeRiversHeritageTrail #ThreeRiversWaterTrail #AlleghenyCounty
The city of Pittsburgh is a beautiful, historic city. One thing that makes Pittsburgh so unique and distinctive is the rivers surrounding it. A good way to explore these rivers is through the Three Rivers Water Trail. The Three Rivers Water Trail is a series of 26+ access points for recreational boats along the four Pittsburgh rivers- the Allegheny, Monongahela, Ohio, and Youghiogheny. These access points are for public use and free of charge, created and maintained by F...riends of the Riverfront and characterized by red paddle signs that indicate the distance from the Point at Point State Park. The Three Rivers Water Trail allows visitors and Pittsburgh locals to explore the beautiful scenery and urban landscape from the water and introduce them to a new perspective. Many people have been on the bridges in Pittsburgh (it’s hard not to, there’s so many), but not as many have been under the bridges. From a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, explore the Pittsburgh rivers through the Three Rivers Water Trail! See more

Allegheny Arsenal in Lawrenceville was famous for its prolific production of weapons and black powder from 1814 until the early 1920’s. The Arsenal had "no equal" according to President James Monroe who visited in 1817. During the Civil War, the Arsenal manufactured cannon balls, guns, and ammunition for the Union Army. A horrendous explosion on September 17th, 1862 killed 75 people including many women and children who were working in the Arsenal. After World War I, portion...s of the Arsenal were donated to the city to build a new park. Today a few stone foundations from the Arsenal remain standing in Arsenal Park, and are a must see for Pittsburgh and American history buffs alike. #AlleghenyArsenal #Lawrenceville #PittsburghHistory
DYK... there is mistletoe in Pennsylvania? Mistletoe is on the naughty list. It’s a hemiparasite and "steals" most its nutrients from its hosts plant. While people sometimes pucker-up underneath it, all parts of mistletoe are toxic to humans! ... https://www.pennlive.com//yes-there-is-wild-mistletoe-in-p

It's Trail Tuesday, and we would like to introduce you to our newest Trail Steward, Lucy (aka Bubs)! Lucy heard how awesome the Three Rivers Heritage and Water Trails were and came all the way from Kentucky to see for herself. Over the winter months, Lucy will be learning to scout out invasive plant species and hot spots for illegal dumping, while also helping Rosie prune all of the young trees along the Trails. Thanks to Cross Your Paws Rescue for caring for Lucy and he...r nine other brothers and sisters as they each find their new homes. #pawsonthetrails #threeriversheritagetrail #threeriverswatertrail
Did you know that the famous Lewis and Clark journey officially began in Pittsburgh? Meriwether Lewis and President Thomas Jefferson choose Pittsburgh for its strategic location at the confluence of the Ohio River. Anxious to depart by July 20th, before the Ohio River grew shallow for the summer, Lewis became frustrated with his boatbuilder. According Lewis the boatbuilder spent more time drinking than building Lewis’ boat. During this delay, Lewis bought a huge Newfoundland,... named Seaman. Seaman would go on to complete the entire journey with Lewis and Clark. Finally, on August 31, 1803, Meriwether Lewis launched his 50-foot boat about 100 yards downriver from where the David L. Lawrence Convention Center now sits. #PittsburghHistory #LewisandClark

DYK...Today is Go to an Art Museum Day, and the #ThreeRiversHeritageTrail is full of museum worthy art. Created in 2012 and located in the Southside Riverfront Park, the Steelworkers Monument offers a nod to Pittsburgh's industrious history, while providing a stellar view of the Pittsburgh skyline. The monument is extra special as it uses parts recycled from the scene it depicts. In fact the workers are fashioned from I-beams repurposed when the Hot Metal Bridge was renova...ted. To see The Steelworkers Monument and countless other pieces of Pittsburgh art and history head out to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail today. #IHeartTrails #GetOutdoorsPA #PittsburghHistory #GotoAnArtMuseumDay
Always excited and grateful for the opportunity to plant more native trees along the #ThreeRiversHeritageTrail!
