Every day is #throwbackthursday when you live in a city as historic as Philadelphia. Check out @carpentershall - hasn’t changed since it was built in 1770! In 1774 Patrick Henry said today, the distinction between New Englander, New Yorker, Pennsylvanian and Virginian is no more. I am no longer a Virginian, I’m an American. This idea of Americanness was born in Carpenter’s Hall two years before the revolution started.

Thanks @advinturesofabroad for appreciating what we do! Posted @withregram @advinturesofabroad New York is a place where people go to reinvent themselves; Philadelphia is a place where people discover who they are One of the draws for NYC, is being in close proximity to places like DC and Philadelphia. Vibrant and historical cities with their own unique character. When I first visited Philly in 2019 - shames me to admit - but I actually had to google where it was (oh ...duh its between NYC and DC ). In addition to location, I was surprised at how little I knew about the birth place of the nation, the American Flag (arguably), cheesesteak and the silent H - so many lives have been shaped by the events that have taken place in that city and I was ignorant of most of its accolades. So when a friend suggested that we take a comedic history trolley tour that was BYOB (which is all the rage in Philly restaurants), I couldn’t have been more excited! Learn about a new city while enjoying the beverage of my choice - sign me up!? Idea: Find a unique way to take in a new city - trolley tour or history pub crawl - you’ll have a blast, meet new people and likely learn something new about the city! What are some other fun and unique ways to learn about a city? #travelblogger #solotravel #womentravel #travelideas #traveltips #wanderlust #adventure #byob #trolleytpur #philly #philadelphia #citytours #citylife #eastcoasttravel #nationsbirthplace #libertybell #cheesesteaks #foundingfootsteps See more

What are you guys looking at Here we have one of our favorite sculptures and our founder (who is also a father), @tmcaleer78 for #foundingfatherfriday. This sculpture called Keys to Community is done by artist James Peniston, is textured by casts of over a thousand keys and made up of 1.8 million pennies collected by Philadelphia school children. You know the Ben saying, a penny saved is a penny that may eventually be melted into a sculpture.

Happy #williampennwednesday! Can’t get enough of this @phillyinquirer photo of our favorite statue on top of our favorite building . . . William Penn, a Quaker, founded Pennsylvania on the idea of absolute religious freedom. A completely revolutionary idea in the 1600’s - it’s said to have influenced Jefferson’s separation between church and state. Penn’s colony was initially described as heaven for farmers and artisans, and hell for preachers and politicians... . . . #cityhallphiladelphia #billypenn #philly #whyilovephilly #williampenn #philadelphia #philadelphiahistory See more

Happy #williampennwednesday! Shout out to our founder and this absolutely ENORMOUS statue of him. It’s currently the largest statue on top of a building in the world. Aside from Ben, Will is one of our favorite historic figures. In 1701 he enacted his Charter of Privileges which guaranteed the citizens of Pennsylvania things like the right to a fair trial and freedom of religion. Pretty forward thinking for your time, Will.

Fall is approaching, and the leaves will be changing before you know it. But so many places in Philly have beauty and color year round. Thanks, @dora_cuenca for this gem in Northern Liberties. Happy #muralmonday !!!

Today’s #throwbackthursday goes back more than 200 years. Dr. Benjamin Rush was known as the "father of American psychiatry." In 1812, he published the first psychiatric textbook called "Observations and Inquiries, upon the Diseases of the Mind."
