Fox Chapel Area School District 21.10.2020

December 9, 2020 Dear Fox Chapel Area Family, With our return to in-person instruction this week, I wanted to share some additional information with you on updated guidance for schools from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. ... Under this updated guidance, the Fox Chapel Area School District is tracking its cases in each building over a 14-day rolling period. Cases are included in the 14-day rolling period based on if an individual is physically present in the school building while infectious (either the date the individual was first symptomatic prior to receiving a positive test result or, in the absence of a test result, the date the individual was first symptomatic). Therefore, every case of COVID-19 in our schools is not automatically added to the count for the rolling 14-day period. If an individual is not physically in the building because he/she is engaging in a virtual learning model, is quarantining for a number of days and then develops symptoms, or other possible scenarios, the case would be included in our aggregate case count but would not be added to the rolling 14-day period for the building. Please note that if an individual building closes, its 14-day period resets. More information about this is available in the frequently asked questions section of the guidance on the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s website. A chart with information about Fox Chapel Area’s aggregate case count and the rolling 14-day period is available on the district’s COVID-19 webpage at www.fcasd.edu/coronavirus. On another topic, the annual Fox Chapel Area School District telethon will be held on December 23. Though the telethon will look much different than years past, our students are very excited and eager for this year’s event, which will benefit the Sharpsburg Community Library for the second consecutive year. There are several virtual fundraisers already underway that will count toward the overall total raised for the library. Please watch the district’s Facebook page if you think you would be interested in participating in some of these events. As the holidays near, I ask that you please continue to take measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community, such as wearing a mask, frequently washing or sanitizing your hands, maintaining physical distance from others, limiting interactions with those outside of your household, and avoiding unnecessary interactions in the community. By working together as a community, we can help to ensure that our students are able to safely remain in school. Sincerely, Dr. Mary Catherine Reljac Superintendent
