Memories from three years ago continue to pop up........ Friday last week, marked my three year anniversary of being at Mellie’s location without Frank. I’ll never forget walking into the kitchen on that Monday, April 16, 2018. The place was a complete disaster, and everything that wasn’t the landlord’s was taken/stolen by Frank and Domenico. Both dining rooms were stripped down to nothing except for the big built-in booths in the back dining room. Every table and chair and w...all hanging was taken. Every plate and every piece of silverware were gone. It took me a few moments to gather my thoughts and embrace the devastation I just walked into. While I was having small thoughts of despair, I was also feeling a sense of relief that that short-lived negative partnership was over. Thankfully, all the cooking equipment and refrigeration belonged to the landlord and it was all still intact. So my crew did what we do, and just started diggin’ in and cleaning up the kitchen. Within a few hours we were up and running, even if it was a very minimal menu. Over the next few weeks I had to get my bearings about me and figure out how the heck I was going to fix what these jerks just did to me. I had minimal money to work with, because for our brief three month partnership, Frank was stealing most of the money. I did what I’ve always done......I kept moving. I prayed. And I had faith. For months. And months. We had nothing. We had an empty front dining room. Literally empty. No tables and chairs. Bcuz we had no extra money to buy new furniture. But little by little, sales increased. Once in awhile, an angel would even walk in and hand me some cash to help me along. For that, I was so humbly grateful. 2018 was so challenging bcuz not only was I dealing with all the partnership losses, I was basically building a start-up, all while having to overcome such a negative reputation the building itself had from it’s previous failed businesses. Fast forward three years, and it really did go by so fast, but HERE I AM! My immediate gratefulness is making it through the recent Covid disaster.......but the gratefulness that runs deep for me is the fact that I had the God-given strength and courage to continue that day three years ago and put the pieces back together. So the next time I express my gratitude to Mellie’s customers, y’all are guna know WHY it’s from the depths of my heart. Happy Anniversary to Mellie’s!
