Happy holidays to Franklin School alumni and their families!Happy holidays to Franklin School alumni and their families!
My grandfather, Dr. Israel Zamost (right), presenting a citation of merit on behalf of The Franklin School of Science and Arts to Honorable John Morgan Davis on 9/21/62, at the school's 13th commencement.
Civic Affairs Council --- Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce 6/25/59----The Warwick Hotel. Award presentation to my grandfather, Israel Zamost, founder of the Franklin school.
From the school's archives, we glean the inspiration of its namesake.
It's a small community of Franklin School graduates who have discovered this page in the years that I created this group. Nevertheless, we have reached 50 "likes." So this is a message to thank those of you who have contributed to this page and who have liked it. Every couple of months, I receive inquiries about the school's program, cost and the like. It pains me to respond because I wish that Franklin and similar high quality technical schools still existed. Sadly, CBS... (which purchased Franklin in the early 1970s), discontinued its entire higher education sector. Thus, the school discontinued operation in the mid to late 1970s, as a result of an ill-advised corporate edict. Its legacy lives on with each of you, in your stories here and in the memories your children, grandchildren and other relatives. Be sure to share a memory here on this page because this is the place for posterity. See more
Anyone still have their Franklin ring?
Near the Franklin school was Lincoln Prep. My grandfather/Franklin's founder, Dr. Israel Zamost, was close friends with Dr. Lapioker, who founded Lincoln Prep. Whereas the Franklin school was dedicated to medical training, the Lincoln school concentrated in the business fields. Below is a an old vinyl clipboard from Lincoln Prep. Between Franklin and Lincoln, these great historical figures really covered a considerable educational constituency in downtown Philly for many decades!
Anyone know the subject matter of these Franklin films?
Unearthed are motion pictures of Franklin School events. One is labeled 12/18/68. Stay tuned.
Just unearthed these photos from the Franklin school archives: June 1943, June 1948, September 1950 and March 1962 classes.
Two more photos depicting some kind of Franklin School promotional booth.
Perusing some family slides, I came upon this gem. Any Franklin graduates recognize this school exhibit? If so, please post.
Proof that Franklin School graduates possessed a variety of talents. . .Here is a sketch of the Franklin School by an unknown artist-Franklin student, perhaps in the sixties. The artist gave the sketch to the school's founder, Israel Zamost, my grandfather.
Thank you to all of the Franklin School of Science and Arts graduates and others who have thus far liked this page. The more activity which occurs on this page, the more likely other graduates will find their way to connect to their educational heritage at Franklin and to their classmates. Spread the word that the Franklin alma mater is alive and well.
Well, well Franklin School students. Here's another long-lost Franklin artifact unearthed from the archives. Anyone remember seeing one of these pencil/paper organizers back in the day?
