Wow, a week's gone by since our Space & Time Discovery Trail ribbon cutting on Earth Day. Thank you to our Blair County Commissioners for participating in this ceremony. It was quite the day with snow squalls in the morning and gusty cold winds in the afternoon. They were the first to walk the trail after the official opening. Major Cluggage holds up a Blair County Libraries Backpack which will be updated to include items for the trail. Yesterday, we had folks from the Pittsburgh area stop by just to hike this trail. The visitors stopped in to tell us how much they enjoyed it, especially the distance scaling on the planets. Stop by an take an out of this world hike! Thank you to all involved!

A Halloween Adventure at Fort Roberdeau Friday, October 30, 2020 Tickets available at the gate. First come, first served. We have about 50 tickets left.... The weatherman predicts a clear sky for Friday night. But it will be cold so bundle up under those costumes and bring a lawn chair as the ground will be damp. Be prepared for a fun and spooky night outdoors!

Are you voting by mail in the upcoming election? (If you're a Pennsylvania resident, today is the last day to apply for a mail-in ballot!) Did you know that the... post office was created during the Revolutionary era? If the Revolution was to succeed, it needed a secure and reliable postal system. Letters were secured from prying eyes by folding and sealing shut with a red wax, as this letter from David Hall at Valley Forge to Thomas Rodney in Dover, Delaware was. But because of the meandering method of mail delivery in the 18th century, it was easy for letters to be damaged, lost, or stolen or captured en route. Almost three weeks after they first convened, and three weeks before they made George Washington commander in chief, the Continental Congress appointed a committee to consider the best means of establishing posts for conveying letters and intelligence throughout this continent. On July 26, 1775 Congress adopted the committee’s proposal, establishing a postal system that ran from Massachusetts to Georgia. The Continental Congress’s postal system connected Americans in a way they had not been under Britain. Learn more on your next visit: bit.ly/3fuxVLT
