How far you want to go in life depends not on how far you’re willing to reach & how hard you’re willing to work but rather how DEEP you’re willing to explore & inquire for yourself. In my mid 20’s, I thought the only way to achieve success was by working crazy stupid hours & making huge sacrifices. It was all I knew at the time based on my experiences & interactions with those adults around me as a young child. What I’ve come to understand though, is that these thoughts wer...e just constructs & beliefs passed on to me by others & the outside world. These constructs absolutely still have some truth to me today but words like sacrifice don’t even exist in my vocabulary anymore. Those huge sacrifices were never really sacrifices in the first place. They were obligations to myself. Obligations made by me. For me. Obligations to achieve career & life aspirations. Obligations to never stop dreaming. Don’t get me wrong, I still pull all nighters, put in plenty 80+ hour work weeks & make hard decisions everyday. But not because I’m following a formula that was passed down to me by others but because I have come to understand that.... 1.) I will always be in the process of becoming. 2.) True stillness comes from constant movement. 3.) Energy is energy & the flow of energy comes from your soul. Energy doesn’t get old & it doesn’t get tired. It doesn’t need sleep or food. All it needs is openness & receptivity. 4.) You’ll never have to look too far for what you’re searching for if you’re looking through your own lens & constantly examining the depths of those lenses. Here’s a throwback to the time me & my good buddy climbed to the summit of Mt. Healy in Alaska. It was unguided & hard. It was also the first time in my life when I discovered the true forces of energy & flow! #unguided #explore #soul #energy #flow #movement #ride #the #wave #baseball #is #a #metaphor #for #life #alwaysreppin

The most frequently asked question we receive this time of the year from athletes who email in from all over..... I’ve been on-ramping & throwing for the last 4-6 weeks and my arm feels good. Should I go through a velo phase? The question will never be whether or not you should go through a velo phase but rather........ 1.) How informed & educated are you on the purpose behind a velocity push cycle? stress response cycles? quality movement? 2.) Is it necessary to program out a velocity push cycle based on where you currently are in your development? Or are there other areas in your training that you should be focusing on? 3.) Do you have coaches around to help manage your velocity push cycle & serve as truth pointers rather than truth tellers? 4.) Are you moving & sequencing well for deceleration to happen early enough for each piece directionally to ensure force production rate is not higher than force acceptance rate? 5.) When would be the best time in your training to go through a velocity push cycle to prepare you for the longevity of your season? Do you have a good understanding of what a deload phase entails & how to incorporate one if need be? The list of questions goes on & on but I think you get the point. Velocity matters. High intent throwing matters. Prepping connective tissue matters. But your ceiling will only ever be as high as the solid foundational floor you build! Velo phases have very little to do with actual velocity & everything to do with everything else. The understanding & interpretation of a velo phase is what matters most. And yes, It is different for everything athlete. So, if you feel ready & decide to go through a velocity phase this year, just question yourself. And instead of actively chasing velocity, focus on building capacity, and learning how to move, reorganize & adapt through space & time. @bdum feeling himself (as he should) after finally starting to climb back up & break through a good 6-month velo plateau. #velocity #push #cycle #offseason #programming #development #baseball #training #pitching #sunday #flow #fullreps
