I am so excited that after 19 years of practicing Integrative Functional Medicine and changing my practice dramatically with the growing body of knowledge there has been finally a study that validates better outcomes for patients! I thank my colleague Dr. Hasse for the summary: JAMA article: Functional Medicine shown superior to standard Primary Care for patient Outcomes! ... In this study, 1595 patients of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine were compared against 4780 similar patients of the Cleveland Clinic Twinsburg Family Health Center for health outcomes over 12 months. At both 6 and 12 months, functional medicine patients exhibited significantly larger improvements in PROMIS GPH T-score points than were seen in patients treated at a family health center The PROMIS GPH score is a highly validated multi-variate assessment tool of Quality of Life and health outcomes. This is a remarkable outcome, and should spur MUCH more future study. To solve our healthcare crisis we do not need to just change how we pay for helathcare - but we need to change the type of healthcare we do. Outcomes are what we are here for!
