The students who built Future Cities on the Moon this year are just the right age to be the first to fly on Mars. Show them that and show them this: https://youtu.be/kNx9hcrUpww
Your students built a Future City on the Moon. They might b interested in a Future City on Mars. https://www.dazeddigital.com//what-will-life-be-like-first You can count on next year's Future City Competition having a theme related to sustainability and there probably won't be any limits on where the Future City can be.
Here we go! The National Finals start at 1pm, tune in at https://futurecity.org right now!! Good luck St. Hilary! #FutureCity2021

At last week’s Future City Competition the technical support room was names after Katherine Johnson and had a link to her bio. She more than deserves to have a spacecraft named after her. Teachers should take this opportunity to recommend that your students watch Hidden Figures.
Cities on the moon might be closer than you think. Oh wait a minute, hundreds of Philadelphia students showed us their cities on the moon last Saturday. Check out some pictures and videos of them on www.futurecityPhilly.org More pictures and videos are coming.
We have taken Future Cities to the Moon, maybnext year Mars
Congratulations to all of our teams who battled through a tough year to make it to the competition! Best of luck to St. Hilary in the National Finals and hopefully we'll see everyone in person next year!

Teachers, looking for something to assign for extra credit? Or if you have girl students who are crazy about computers you can tell them about this: From December 7-13, CS4Philly celebrates National Computer Science Education Week 2020 with free, online activities open to all students in Philadelphia! Help spread the word by sharing this opportunity with your colleagues, teachers, students, and parents. Register now for an activity! See details below. MONDAY, DECEMBER 7: Us...ing Computer Simulations to Solve Complex Problems In this 2-hour online workshop for girls, grades 6-9, presented by CS4Philly partners at TechGirlz, students will learn how scientists use technology to determine how fast viruses spread! Complex systems are all around us from a flock of birds creating beautiful patterns, to the spread of diseases to understanding and protecting ecosystems. Computer simulations are a great tool scientists use to understand complex systems. Students will learn about computer simulations and create their own simulations of an epidemic and what factors make it spread faster or stop. Registrants will need access to a computer and internet. Space is limited so registration is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Grades: Girls, Grades 6-9 Duration: 2 hours Time/Date: Monday, December 7 6:00 - 8:00 pm Register here https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/
Final 6 Results: 2nd place goes to Downingtown MS! Congratulations! #FutureCityPhilly2021 #FutureCity2021 #LivingOnTheMoon
As long as you have a bunch of students thinking about the Moon, have them take a shot at wining $25,000. Which is a lot more than they are going to win at the Future City Competition. https://www.herox.com/LunarDelivery
Someday a city on the Moon will be homebase to asteroid miners. This pretty small scale mining but pretty big exploration. You just might get some ideas for how your Future City will fit into the future solar system economy.
The national Future City Competition has posted a several short videos about 2020-2021 Competition Updates your team should spend some time to view them and share them with your team. https://futurecity.org/about-the-competit/2020-2021-updates
To all those Future City Teams that are building cities on the Moon, this is an opportunity to hear Peter Carrato, Civil Engineer, Bechtel Company Emeritus Fellow talk about the challenges of building on the Moon and Mars. The topic was supposed to about Mars, but he talks a lot about the differences between building on Earth, Moon and on Mars. You can pick up some great ideas to incorporate in your city and your presentation. https://www.planetary.org//0318-2020-pete-carrato-mars-civ
Since you are going to be building a city on the Moon, this would be a good time to take a look at it. Before you do, check out some of NASA’s Moon resources. https://fb.me/e/7KWh6TtvW
Discover E has released a video of astronaut Ricky Arnold of STS-119 talking about building a Future City on the Moon. He shows some of the things that have to be considered on the way to the moon and in closed ecosystems like ISS and a Lunar city. Reminder registration is open for both the Future City Competition and the Philadelphia Future City Engineering Fair. Go to our website to sign up for both. https://youtu.be/JqF4L6Vr1u0
Be sure to jog to the NASA page and see the video
Registration is now open for the Future City Engineering Fair. Due to COVID-19 we have opted to have a series of webinars through the month of October that address the engineering challenge for this year. Go to our website to see our all star list of speakers and register your team to participate. https://futurecityphilly.org/engfair.htm
AAAS is the most prestigious scientific organization in the United States. Join and support Outreach to middle school girls and/or get your middle school girls involved in the Future City Competition
Going to Mars isn't the same as building a city on the Moon but there are going to be some fantastic STEM presentations. It is free for you and your students. https://www.marssociety.org/
The Future City Engineering Fair is going virtual this year. We will be hosting a series of webinars addressing the challenges of having a city on the moon. Students will be able to attend live and ask questions or watch recordings of the presentations on YouTube. The schedule is still being developed, but you can see a partial schedule on the Future City Engineering Fair web site. Registration will start after Labor Day. https://www.futurecityphilly.org/engfair.htm
Changes are coming to the Future City Competition due to COVID-19, follow us on Facebook and check our web page often for updates.
