My littlest (but tallest ) brother-in-law asked if he and his friends could carry a Gable House sign through promenade, one of our town’s unique annual events where all the kids going to prom walk down a path lined with spectators. I am always up for supporting harmless shenanigans, so of course I said yes. I think #gablegang has been officially born, and also a unique marketing strategy for our local small businesses. Who needs sponsored parade floats when there are well-dressed teenagers walking through town? Thanks @benhornig.0023 - you represented Gable House with class and style.
Modeling chocolate lace and gumpaste roses for a four-tier stunner. Welcome to wedding season!
Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake anyone? We will be here at market @lbgfarmersmarket today! Or walk in at the shop in Mifflinburg today through Saturday. Lots of goodness to be had!
I learned ages ago that is it exceptionally difficult to get an attractive photo of a muffin. Which is a shame, because these babies are one of my proudest accomplishments as an amateur baker. I developed this recipe from doing research on the ratios that go into a muffin, and test baking until they were just right. These aren’t a dump-and-mix process either - we are careful to cut in the butter so it’s nice and crumbly, and individually press the berries into each one, and fill them with a cream cheese danish filling - which was my mom’s brilliant idea. Our giant cream cheese filled muffins may not be the prettiest thing in the case, but they might be one of the tastiest
Golf is a great analogy for cake decorating. I think through the approach to each cake, and take my strokes, selecting the right tools for each step. Some cakes feel like a 2-stroke on a putt putt course, and some cakes feel like a 4-stroke a mile long on an 18-hole with a big channel of water and five sand traps and lots of hidden slopes. This cake was definitely on the 18-hole course, and I’m proud to say I think I hit a birdie. It all went pretty smoothly! The top tier is... white with buttercream, and the bottom is chocolate with peanut butter, iced in swiss meringue buttercream, covered in our homemade fondant, and the decorating elements were created with modeling chocolate. Shoutout: My mom, @keisterdonita, came in and was my caddy for this one since we were a little overbooked with cakes this week, and she is much more efficient at covering cakes in fondant than I am. Thanks, mama!
ANOTHER new business open on our block!
Take me to the world where this flamingo lives
When one artist inspires another! @danireberart painted a collection of watercolor florals in the color scheme requested, turned them into usable digital files via photoshop, I arranged them onto the cake via Adobe illustrator, and then I pallet knifed them onto the cake using the design as my reference. It was such a wonderful collab, and I hope to be able to do more like it! To support @danireberart, follow her both there and @four.eyed.fox, and check out some of her stuff at the Artisan Corner Co-op at 500 Chestnut Street in Mifflinburg on Saturdays! #cakedesign #paintedbuttercream #cakedecorating #bts #weddingcake #weddingcakeideas #colorfulcakes #flowerpower #edibleart #palletknifepainting #artistcollaboration #mifflinburgpa #gablehousebakery #centralpaweddings
Easter weekend is over for us! Always a big one in the bakery, and this year was no different. You guys kept us hopping just to keep the case full, despite producing twice and three times as much as we normally do. Thankful for all of you!
We literally made twice the macarons we normally do this week, and had to do an emergency restock bake yesterday anyway! That being said, we are fully stocked with macs, along with a whole bunch of other goodness in the case. Open til 2!
Mini cupcakes because then you can eat four and still just barely start to question your choices.
New things! We’ve decided to reintroduce bagels into the bakery, having completely revamped our recipe. We have plain, cinnamon raisin, and everything, as well as some whipped cream cheese flavors made in house. Get them to enjoy at home, or let us toast it for you for immediate enjoyment, at the @lbgfarmersmarket or at the shop in Mifflinburg. I know what I’m having for breakfast
Just a cow living her best life. This was my favorite little cake to make recently, simply because we were given a farm theme and a generous smash cake budget, so we got to dream this story up! I spend a lot of time essentially imitating the styles of others in the cake photos that are sent, which is a great way to learn, but there’s something extra rewarding about seeing something come to life from imagination instead of google search.
We are here and open til 2PM
Had a cake that was baker’s choice, some time to experiment, and a new set of a variety of pallet knives. I cannot tell you how good for my soul it is to play with a different floral style Check our stories for a time lapse of decorating the top of this cake!
Breakfast tray! This glorious collection of goodness can be ordered within 24 hours of when you need it, and can be delivered anywhere in Mifflinburg free of charge. Our small tray is $40 (pictured) and the large one is twice the size and $60. If freshly baked breakfast pastries aren’t your thing, then we do have a dessert version of this, too. And we will even individually wrap all the goodness if you have pandemic related concerns ... This has been an advertisement for your local all-from-scratch bakery. (Note: I really don’t like doing posts with an advertisey (word?) tone, but hey, sometimes you just gotta let the people know they can get the stuff. )
Merriest of Christmases to all of you! This Christmas might feel and look a little different (I know it does for my family), but I’ve found it uniquely poignant and thoughtful. Finding new creative ways to love and be with family has been invigorating in some ways. I hope you all have a day filled with all the goodness and surrounded by people who love you well
Stocking stuffers Or neighbor appreciation Or treating yourself We have lots of mini cupcakes, macarons, and all our regular goodness for your holiday gifting and feasting. Open Wednesday and Thursday from 7am-4pm, and also hanging out at the Lewisburg Farmer’s Market today.
Some happy snapshots of the case today! Donuts, eggnog mini cakes, chocolate walnut brownies, mini cupcakes, sticky buns, macarons, and more of course. Lots of goodness to end our snowy week!
Over the past three weeks, we turned 30 bushels of apples into 150 gallons of apple filling, made 300 batches of pie dough and turned them into 1500 pie shells, went through 300 pounds of butter, and ran the ovens for a total of 18 hours - and a whole lot of other things that I’m honestly too tired to quantify. So thankful to Evangelical Community Hospital for the opportunity both to pull off something crazy and to be a part of a really special and important thing for our fr...ont-line workers. We wouldn’t have done this for anyone else as we knew how much it would pull us away from all the little things for our customers, but I’m so glad this partnership lined up. We truly have the most wonderful people on our team - Erin, who kept us functioning with all the other things on the list as the pies went on in the background and then helped me figure out and run the whole process; Kelsey, who oversaw almost the entire assembly process and really stepped into leadership in such a cool way; Lena, who truly did anything we asked whenever we asked and so many things that it’s hard to highlight one; Maddie, who managed to mail out all the orders and keep the emails going within a few weeks of starting here; Kayla, who made sure customers got waited on; Jess, who single-handedly made more than half of those batches of pie dough and labeled every single box; Tasha, who made the other half of those batches of pie dough, all the crumble topping, and formed a lion share of the shells; Josh, who cored and cut at least 15 bushels of apples and kept me entirely sane and did more than a fiance should be expected in support; And they all stayed ridiculously positive, incredibly efficient and hard-working, and have me consistently wondering how I got so lucky. Others to mention are James, Dad, and our wonderful neighbors, the Owens, who helped us deliver the pies to Evan. Dani, Jamie, Dan, and Nate who jumped in as family helpers. Juli, Tyler, and Jamie Musser, who stepped in when and where we needed them. And my mom. Who did all the things always - from giving me the courage to take this on, to helping me figure out recipes and how to scale them.
UPDATE: CLOSED FOR THE DAY It’s a beautiful day, but there’s no parking in sight. So unless you snowshoe your way here, I don’t think it’s gonna work out
