At the program meeting this week, participants discussed the importance of empathetic and compassionate leadership. If you are interested in joining the GLC team as a Leadership Mentor, programs like the Search Inside Yourself Institute are events you will help facilitate and coordinate in the LM role! Our final Senior Spotlight is Irene Mugeni ‘21. Irene is a third year Leadership Mentor who participated in the Leadership Certificate as a first year at Gettysburg. Irene’s first experience with the GLC was at the international students pre-orientation. After that, she was inspired to join the LC program and later become a part of the GLC’s team. Her favorite memory is the GLC’s winter retreat from last year. She enjoyed spending time with the team and learning more about s...ervant leadership. Her most valuable learning experience is that everyone has potential to be a leader. To tap into this potential, self awareness is key to creating our development strategy. After graduation, Irene plans to apply the problem solving, facilitation, and interpersonal skills she has acquired from the GLC in her next step. Thank you for everything Irene, we will miss you!

The LGBT Center of Central PA is pleased to present the 13th Annual GSA Leadership Summit, which will be held virtually this year to ensure the safety of all participants. Our theme is Cultivating Community with a focus on intersectionality and mutual aid. This Summit is an opportunity for students and professionals to meet, network and participate in workshops designed to help everyone better understand and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, que...er, intersex, and asexual youth and their allies in central Pennsylvania and beyond. The GSA Leadership Summit is the only event of its kind in central PA, where LGBTQQIA students and their student and professional allies have day-long safe spaces to network, learn new skills, and work toward making central PA a more welcoming place for all people.
